smith, you are really jump the gun didn't you?
    What happen to your HD3870X2?

Congrats on you new purchased....but you should have waited because the 4870X2 will be released by July or August, and the 4870 OC versions coming as well.

I heard the rumour; the 4870X2 is 80% faster than a single 4870 and only cost around $500.

Did you get a good deal on your 4870s?

edit: yeah some thing wrong with the GPU-Z, I though 4870 core at 750/1100mhz?

e6600 is 2 cores (native) Q6600 is 4 cores (basicly 2 x the e6600 so not native 2 cores on each die squished together)

    and finaly some nice pics

some nice xfire and yes the drivers are very imature... kinda frustrating for grid as it does not suport xfire yet. btw these cards oc very very nicely and when you turn the fan speed up to 40% (wich is quieter than the old 2900xt) the card peeks at about 50 C on the core thats with an OC to 790mhz core and 1000mhz ram (4ghz). now im just waiting for the bios flash because this core is good to at least 80 C and i think that gives me a lot of overclocking headroom. great buy these cards.

Must be the drivers, the 4870's should blow by those GT's so fast it sucks the chips right off the PCB!

    Yeah baby!!

Do they heat up your case much? My friend had 2 3870's and had some small temp issues. I heard the 4870's were even hotter, but you know how net rumors go...

they look sexy as hell there. when Christmas comes around im going to go buy a 4870x2 along with the nehalem and x58.

quick question, could I crossfire 2 x2 models on an intel chipset or would I need an amd chipset to do that.

Smith, Grumpy was talking about 3dmark scores. What the different between dual vs quad core 6600 chips.

@ Grumpy, I'm not sure about it unless 3dmark ultilized multi threads then quad will get higher score. Can any one clarify this?

@Smith, I have seen some cracked bios for 4850 floating around, ppl ocing over 800mhz. I'm not sure if I seen one for 4870 yet.

I always scare to mess around with the bios. I saw some guy posted his problem when he killed his 2 brand new cards, can't remember 4850 or 4870. Both are not working after he flashed them and he was thinking RMA them. The safe way to do it is wait for RivaTuner comes out a new version that is support 48xx cards. In the mean time I don't think ATI will unlock this feature in the CCT to let you go any higher unless the new overclocked cards released.

its actualy because the 4870 uses a 128kb bios becuase of the GDDR5 were all the other boards out there only use a 64kb bios thats why the flash whent bad all the apps till now only alowed for a 64 kb flash, well really a 64kb dump.

and as far as the temps go, stock fan speed sees them get very high but thats the way the card is suposto run (see pics theres a sticker for heat) i saw myn get up to about 90C but i whent and changed the fan speed so now they load at 55C or something like that.

Nice pair of cards you have there dude

i remembered reading an article about cross model support ie: 3870 & 4870 in cross fire... i was wondering if i were to pair a 4870x2 to my 3870x2 will it be worth any while? someone was saying the 4870x2 will always be waiting on the 3870x2 due to it sheer power...its not gonna make much difference

    Any thoughts ?
