Default Sapphire hd 4870x2 issues !!

So i finally got the card,
i installed the 8.8 driver that came with it but it couldn't control the fan& card ran extremely hot (90 c) so i downloaded 8.12 and set the fan to 40 %. This gave me 46 c idle and 68 when gaming and every thing seems to run fine but once i open a game for more than 15 minutes the card crashes(black screen with wierd textures and restart)
this happened to me twice and i wouldn't dare to play like this anymore.
I ran 3d markvantage and got 0 marks in all tests!
    Please help asap.

    what are your ambient temps?
try setting the fan to 100% then do the benches and play games all over again
if it didnt crash or reboot then previous crashes could be due to the temps

yes i know 100% fan speed is loud as hell but u are doing testing so just give it a go and see
    what happens

Also ensure u have good air circulation in yr case

forgot to mention if all goes well at 100% then
u might want to download and install Rivatuner then search for the guide on how set your
4870x2 fan speed to variable control

You can set it in such a way that the fan goes to 100% or less
when gaming and benching and then back to 30% when surfing the net

Creating multiple fan profiles helps u regulate yr card temps and compromise noise level of the 4870x2 fan speed

    No change !
I ran fan at 90 % and tried call of duty world at war.
    Temps:
    idle 42
gaming 58 (still normal as 70 when fan is 50%)
After about 10 minutes of playing smoothly suddenly black screen with wierd colored horizontal lines for 5 sec and restart.

Btw i faced a bsod when i was changing the epu engine from performance to turbo
so i uninstalled that wierd program.
Another thing: 3d mark vantage gives me ZERO at any test after runnig it normally(wierd thing is that i'm getting minimum 19 frame rates at some tests at 1280x1024 anti aliasing 4 and high, iso't this less than normal)

    thanks ,

Maybe get everest pro edition and check GPU VRM temps as well it might be an issue. I read somwhere that overheating / dead VRM might be causing such thing

Well i've removed the card and rams and added them again. In case of bad connecting or something
And i've installed catalyst 9.1, set the fan to 70% while gaming and even directed a stand fan to the card after opening the case !!

Temps are stable at 74 maximum gaming for 10 minutes
but after around 15-20 minutes of playing any game(games tried are call of duty waw, grid,med.2 Total war and spore) the screen freeze and keyboard num lock freeze(EVERYTHING) I HAVE TO RESTART.
So its a new problem .
Please help because i'm getting really depressed !

Have u tried the card on another system?
Can u bring the card and test it on another motherboard?

is it still within 30days or 10days of yr purchase? if yes...i would recommend you
    to do a RMA

But i suggest u take it to another system and test it first cause thats why they (distro) normally do
and if it works well on theirs the problem could be yr mobo or a maybe even a bad PSU ?

    Hey bullydog
I cant rma it as i bought it from a store at another country from about a month and couldn't test it till i got here !
But i believe its not the card problem right now as i tried many things that i read on other forums and right now card works fine but i get random crashes in games after playing for un specified time.
    Not freezes nor bsods.
Is it because of windows vista 64?
I'm using an arabic version of it, is it related?
My psu is thermal take tough power 700 watt cross fire certified...

i am also using win vista x64 and dont have any problems with it...
how about catalyst 9.1 is there an Arabic version?
no sure about conflicting drivers due to languages but u could try it on an english only vista x64 and see if it works or not

As of now i can only suggest to you is do trial and error...move this card to another machine and see if the problem persist

It could be your power supply, I had the same card, and had test a customers machines that had the same power supply as you do , and I ran into the same problems that your having . He had a 9800GX2 that he was having problems with, which is why I tried the X2 .

We installed a Tagan BZ-900 and no more problems, just to be sure, I removed his GX2 and reinstalled my X2 and sure enough, it worked fine, problem solved. If you have a friend that has a power supply at least 850w try that first and see what happens.

    Hey
Thanks but i think i solved the problem !
    What i did:
I removed vista 64 and installed vista 32... Still no difference, so i FLASHED UP THE BIOS and installed 9.1 driver, everything seems to run fine right now. I played call of duty waw &crysis no problems(except that crysis kept crashing when i enable A.I catalyst/the crossfire link)

    A new problem:
when i opend grid it stutterd like hell!!
Had to decrease resolution to 1024x768 and only x2 sampling in order to play !!
I used to play grid MAX when using vista 64 (in the 15 mins before crash)!!!
Maybe its because this 32 vista is old(no service pack installed)
I Will try to update the service pack and see what happens

I'm surprised you can run this with a 350watt psu. Like the doc said try another cos I reckon that it is the psu that is overheating.
