Default I dont understand... Quadro FX 4600 Nvidia

    http://store.nvidia.com/servlet/Cont...1256585772878#

I am trading a laptop for a computer a friend from online has built for me. I was surprised to see what video card he installed in it. I dont understand why he would, is this card good or bad? why does it retail for $1,999.00 and why would he trade it for a hp laptop, on top of a kick ass complete tower? Other than being a kick ass kool kat.... lol Hes a computer enthusiast I know. But, WOW!

I the card itself, and hadnt found much info, opinions I mean, about the card. So Im asking here... If you know anything about this card would you post it here? please?

    Thanks.

It all revolves around the driver support for professional 3D applications like 3ds Max or Maya. Quadro drivers allow the Quadro to be used to accelerate the rendering operations of such professional 3D applications while GeForce drivers do not. This is the basis for the premium prices NVIDIA (and ATI) charge for their professional-grade graphics cards.

Think of it as an uprated gtx260 (192) if it has 1.5gig of memory and you be be on the mark otherwise (768meg) it compares to a 9800gtx with a few bells and whistles

Kool. I feel lucky to be in the situation Im in. I guess this individual has upgraded from his old platform to a new, and is trading me for my present laptop. I will finally have a computer I could play games on, and should be stable enough to invest all my music tools and samples on. I already lost all my projects once before and I havent put anything on it again...

It looks like a descent card. I will be using the card for graphics animation as well. being it has those capabilities...

That's card designed for workstation, professional graphic designer, 3D model rendering...etc.
I don't know how well it's scaling when you play games, you got to try it and find out.

Quadro cards are indeed for workstation 3D apps like 3D Studio, Maya, etc. A good friend of mine is a pro and he uses these cards. They are also programmed entirely for stability since you absolutely CANNOT have crashes for professional work, they have to be 100% stable ALL the time. So Nvidia charges 10x as much for that as well.

HOWEVER, they are essentially regular GeForce cards but have a different BIOS. If you know what you're doing, you may be able to flash the BIOS to make a regular GeForce card into a Quadro.

I have to read more to know what exactly this is and means and how to test for it....

Thanks for the rapid responses! Im super excited!, I do plan and intend on using the card for both, gaming and 3d rendering if I can.

I'm reading a review on this card card from 2007. you might just wanna get a 280 or 5870 instead.

I reckon, but this card is a trade with a computer for my HP pavilion dv9000 laptop... lol

If i were to buy a video card, it would be a gtx 295 or higher or comparable from ATI, most likely the 5870 x2. thanks.

But I seriously feel like I am getting this card for free. I will use it thats for sure... animation and wire frame, rendering, and gaming, if it will perform for gaming...

I havent found many articles with benchmark scores, I assume cause its not designed for gaming.
Also, I know its a bit old, and Use of a 32 bit OS will be needed. I will have xp sp3 32 bit.
At least it supports Direct x 9 and Direct x 10. That is all I need atm. It will work for a DAW for now. I am getting a much better deal for performance, than what I have from my laptop.
