Default Catalyst 10.7 Drivers Launching on July 26th!

Remember that we reported that VLC v1.1.1 was coming out with GPU Decoding for AMD later this month? It was mentioned that VLC 1.1.1 would launch in conjunction with Catalyst 10.7 drivers on 7/21/2010. VLC 1.1.1 media player was released as promised, but no ATI drivers have been released yet. We contacted our friends up at ATI and Terry Makedon confirmed that the drivers are coming along as planned and will drop next Monday. That means next week we'll see new ATI Catalyst 10.7 drivers. We'll stay quiet on what the new features and fixes are.

Catalyst 10.7 is scheduled to be posted on Monday July 26th. It will have full VLC acceleration at that point.

10.6 totally screwed my 5970 up, so I had to go back to 10.5. Hopefully these new ones are better.

    ATI Catalyst 10.7 Driver Investigation

Catalyst 10.7 is great. Game smoothness and playability, for this test setup, has increased. Micro-stutter generally associated with multi GPU setups is not notable at all during our testing, which is an excellent plus. Silly Steam games such as Droplitz and Soduku are playable again. 10.6 to 10.1 made these games unplayable; we were unable to find settings that worked. Usability is more of the same; CCC still seems cumbersome to use, however things are where you expect them to be and do what they are supposed to do.

If all is well I will give these a go on the new build with the 5870.

Got the drivers from the US ATI site. Install was flawless after a recommended restart!
