Default 1GB memory heading for HD 2900 XT?

If an article posted at TweakTown is correct, 1GB of GDDR4 memory could be heading straight for AMD's HD 2900XT, which is currently unhappily seated behind Nvidia'a 8800 series GPU's.

    Default 1st 1GB Card!

Sweet. Finally, a video card with 1GB ram! It's great to see AMD setting some records again and shipping something first. I bet they'll beat NVIDIA by like negative a year.

I hope this helps the disappointing price/performance ratio of the new cards. Currently, with all the extra electricity they use, they'll end up costing as much as a GeForce 8800 GTX after about two years of uptime, and they don't perform much better than the 8800 GTS. To top it off, they don't have nearly as much Linux support, so I'm not sure why anyone would buy it except for the Crossfire performance.

I'll admit to being an NVIDIA fanboy (Really I just love Linux and want to see my NVIDIA shares hit $50 this year), but watching AMD pressure NVIDIA would be worth it to see AMD get back in shape and start pushing Intel around again.

    Hi jbo5112, welcome to Pureoverclock.

I have to agree with you on that one, yes, it will take some time for AMD to get back on their feat. I'm also quite an Nvidia fanboy myself, so i cant deny that i somehow enjoy seeing one camp dominate the market . Lets just hope for AMD's sake that something drastic happens soon, because in all honesty, this isn't good.
