Default Intel preparing lower clocked Yorkfield processor

Word has hit our vigilant ears that Intel is preparing a new lower clocked quad-core Yorkfield CPU. Being a 2.33Ghz part with the standard 1333 MHz FSB, it's quite clear where the Q9100 slots into the table on the right. What does make this chip a tasty option is the rumoured 12MB of L2 cache, which is twice the amount of the slightly more expensive Q9300, though on par with the Q9450, Q9550 and QX9650. As for pricing, something around the $224 mark is to be expected.

    Why did they do that?
2.33ghz with 12mb L2 caches and 2.5Ghz only 6mb and sell for more $$$

Does make you wonder whether this is too good to be true. This will pretty much kill the Q9300 - especially since Yorky's overclock so dam well.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
