Guru3D has taken a look at PowerColor's HD 4850 with 2GB of memory. As ambitious as this may be, the extra memory isn't justifiable on a mid-range solution.

Yes, generally speaking, the extra memory only really helps at very high resolutions, in which case would probably mean a 4870 would be used, not 4850. Kinda renders it moot.
The only positive thing I can see from it, is CAD work, I believe they use high graphics memory, but it seems to be a waste, it would have been better to make a 2GB 4870 IMO.
I had a 1Gig 8800gt....Things still haven't changed here

its a great and innovative idea but as Gareth said it would be better if a 4870 had 2 gigs on it since its more powerful. hey! why don't they make a 2 gig 4870 with a 1024-bit Memory Interface now that would be astounding!
