Smile Help me choose a motherboard

[Edit] My first post *waves to all* ^.^

OK so I have the following items.. yes I bought them all as I don't want to take any more chances:-

    - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz
    - Hynix 2GB PC6400 DDR2 (2 x 1024)
    - Corsair 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz E.P.P. Memory (2 x 1024)
    - Crucial Ballistix 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz EPP Memory (2 x 1024)
    - XFX GeForce 8800 GTX XXX Edition
    - DELL Wide Screen-E228WFP 22 LCD Monitor

    Ok, what I will do.

    1) I will over-clock the CPU to 3.2Ghz and thats it.
    2) I will need 2 GB ram only, and will give the remaining rams I bought to my friends or put them my father's system.
    3) I will not be using dual video cards i.e SLi. I will put in only one card but need full x16.
    4) I will be putting in a GamerXtreme soundcard
    5) The future upgrade means I'll be abroad in U.S so will be buying a new system there.

Alright what I need to know...

Which motherboard do I need? EVGA is not available in india... so I'm clueless T.T *cry*

I've read too much horror stories of Asus 680i boards and several horror stories about other boards as well.

I need a new system built in the week *sigh*

So need a stable motherboard that suits me (read "what I will do" above) and a match of 2GB from the memory I have at hand.

Some choices, in no particular order:-

    - Intel 975XBX2KR
    - Intel D975XBXLKR (but i think it does not support 800Mhz memory?)
    - Asus P5N32-E SLI
    - Asus Striker Extreme
    - Asus P5B Intel Socket 775 ATX Motherboard
    - Suggest? It has to be Intel or Asus - nothing else available here in India.

Been trying to hard to get it built but more I read about things.. the more scared I become. Please suggest something from your experience and knowledge and I'll blindly follow the majority.

I will have two fans in my case but do I need a CPU cooler other than the one that came with the CPU? If so please suggest a good brand. Just for the note I keep the system in a well air conditioned room, most of the time I need to wear heavy clothing to just stay in there! aw my poor numb fingers ^.^'

I own a Striker Extreme and its a very solid board. If price isnt to much of an issue its a good investment. Great board for overclocking and all the issues youve read about have been sorted with regular bios upgrades. Or maybe you should take a look at the Commando ive read some good stuff about that board. As for your CPU cooler theres lots of good fans available all varying in price, but imo you cant go wrong with a Zalman, they look nice, do a good job and are very quiet.

Any one build a computer from now and forward should consider a mother board that supports the following:
    FSB: 800/1066/1333
    MEM: DDR2/DDR3 --> available
CPU: Dual Core up to Quad - Intel will release the Preryn (1333fsb) sooner than you think

    - Intel 975XBX2KR - good board
    - Asus Striker Extreme - too expensive but not support 1333 FSB
    - Asus P5W DH Deluxe - good one as well
the above boards are all good but doesn't support DDR3 and 1333fsb. I believe most these boards will support Quad core.

    Air Coolers:
Zalman's CNPS9700 or Thermaltake V1, both performance well at fair price. If you're only OC to 3.2g then you don't need to upgrade the cooler. Since the computer will be in a well air conditioned room then you don't have to worry about this issure, uless the stock cooler is too loud.

The problem with the 680i boards is when you overclock the FSB beyond 1300mhz and quad-core is used. Caused by faulty tranisitor that has since been fixed. That I heard, but I didn't hear any problems with Asus's 680i boards.

Your right on the Striker not supporting ddr3 memory but it will support 1333 fsb as and when the Preryn arrives. Value for money wise its not good and there are cheaper boards out there that will overclock as good if not better. The board has grown on me the longer ive had it but would only suggest buying one if money isnt an issue.

    @ Wayne
It was my mistake. I missed read the specs from another board.
Definately, Striker or Striker Extreme are one of the best board from Asus.

    @ Sacherry
The best advise is to buy the best hardware that fit your wallet and a better future upgrade path.
