    Default Problem

I've noticed my computer is running a bit slower than usual. In CPU-Z and core temp it shows that I'm only using 2 cores. BIOS is set to use all four. What is wrong?

criss, can you post a screen shot of CPU_Z and Core Temp for us so we see what you are seeing.

If you do not have software for screen capturing try this one it is free and works very well. http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/

First, bring up task manager and go to performance tab you should see 8-columns for the CPU which is what the OS sees as processors or logical processors, which is 4-core w/hyper threading.

If you don't go to device manager and look at the processors you should see 8-processors under processors.

If the OS does not see all cores correctly, nothing will.

I figured it out. He needs to go to msconfig in the boot> advanced tab. 4 cores will be checked. Uncheck the top left box and whalla... 8 cores.... Save and restart system.

I laughed at your #6 post. You said OS wouldn't recognize all cores of 2600K because you did a silly thing by setting the BOOT Advance option of multiple processors. That option is only use when two or more physical processors are installed.

I did not set it. I had a 2500K in and replaced with 2600K. Perhaps that is why and Chris has the same problems......

Donno. Maybe cause I had 2500K in MSCONFIG>advanced>boot was set to 4 cores. virtual cores did not read. I on a whim unchecked the box and got all 8 cores

what closet are you guys coming out from?
that feature is not for single physical processor, you only use that feature when you have SR2 board with two CPUs. Core/virtual cores has nothing to do with it.

BTW, by boat is fine...how is your?
