The overall performance increase on the 3770K to the 2600K is 2-5% depending on the app. I would opt to the 2600K IMO. The 2700K is the 2600K a 100MHz higher default clock speed. They (2600K/2700K) perform exactly the same core for core.
So I have an extra 2700K , so I guess I will use that. I can always buy another chip and put it in the board. Thanks Jim.

Intel has short changed the over clockers on it's Ivy bridge range of CPU's,using poor thermal grease, not the flux less solder as on the Sandy bridge. This means that the chip ramps up the temperature instantly and cuts out before the cooling fan can spin.To rectify the problem the processor housing needs to be split and a good quality thermal paste applied, then the over clocking figures can increase by up to 20%.

That may have been the story for the 3770K, but I believe the 3570K was released later, after Intel found out about the heat problem, so it's very possible that they corrected their mistake with the 3570, I'm not sure if we have any members running a 3570 that could show us screen shots of their chips temps.

Thanks for that DD,I am greatly relieved,as I didn't fancy butchering my CPU,although I can't believe they didn't know about the issue, after all a K chip is for overclocking.

Can you please use the " User CP " located at the top left of this page, and fill out your systems specs. AS far as Intel goes, you never know, they may have known about the heat issue, or found out at a later date.

    Thanks

Not yet(at least I am not aware). I do not trhink Intel wants to further debate the somewhat debacle. IMO, if the lid the processor better your only talking a few degrees. The 3D Tri-gate transistors is the culprit IMO.

I haven't seen any information from Intel, but then it's not something to advertise the Japanese dismembered an Ivy bridge CPU and replaced the stock thermal compound with a superior one and reduced the heat by up to 20%,so it is not just the die size.
