Intel just announced that, over the next three years, it will slowly ramp down its motherboard business, shuttering it completely before the rest of the industry shifts to Broadwell-based platforms.

Like that last articel he posted about this, even Intel told everyone that it was total crap, if they did move forward with this plan AMD would be the new desktop king.

The gist of the article at least from my perspective is that Intel is going to stop manufacturing their own branded motherboards not the cpus for socketed boards

This is a new article that came out yesterday talking about the stop to making Intel MOTHERBOARDS, not the chip. Intel has been behind in the motherboard game and they are basically calling it quits on that to focus there attention on other things and let the other manufactures take care of that part. I read the article last night.. it was interesting... They are going to focus there team on the NUC's

Yea, not allot of OCers or end users are buying Intel boards..

However I do see allot of Intel boards in OEM builds. They normally don't have all the fancy bells and whistles like Asus and Asrock does which is why most opt not to buy them...

I think Intel have a vast OEM supply only as I have never seen an Intel motherboard on sale in the UK. I think this is a good move for them in all honesty. They can focus on the things that they do best - CPUs! (Yeah, I know they do other things too... )

I have a dead x58 Intel MB. my fault!!

Not a great MB though. You would think that with having the inside track on new processors and all that sort of stuff that they would produce THE killer overclocking board that was ready with a great bios from launch of any new cpu. Expensive? probably, but a performer. The reality is or has been somewhat lacking. I suggest that due to this performance being mediocre not very many folk will notice Intel leaving this market.

The DX79SI I have is one of the best boards Intel made, which is why they shipped them to reviewers with the 3960X chip already installed, it overclocks just as well as any other X79 board, and also looks great

I got shipped a DX79SR as payment for a review. It looked like a nice board, and I definitely didn't expect that, in all honesty.

Edit: sorry grumpydaddy, I missed your post. Most of those companies I have never heard of. I tend to stick to the big four or five that I know and have dealt with.
