The 920 price is very attractive and the $284 more for extra 270mhz. Ouch...$1.05 per Mhz, I think I will go for the 920 and overclock the heck it and save me almost 3 bills.

Look at the TDP, whooping 130w though, you're better think of water cooling these baby, oppss...did I just say water cooling? Or at least a high end air cooler, so you can get a minor overclocking

That's the key to OC'ing............scoop a cheap model and make it as fast as the really expensive one.......all for the price of a decent heatsink

Correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't they say this chips Ocing by thermal controller?
The better you can keep it cool like cuccumber then the more change you will get higher clock.
So how far do you think you get Ocing these chips with stock HFS?
Just like the current Extreme Edition cpu, you can't get it very far with stock HFS because of the whopping 130W DTP.

argh makes me wish I had waited a bit longer to build my rig...

On a good note maybe the Quad extream chips will get slashed in price once the i7's are out... I could easily upgrade the chip and keep the rest of my system

I bet these will cost a small fortune when released tho

    Rich,
my thinking just like your, get the Xtreme & betterh grfx, it will last 2-3 more yrs. If you're going to build another new rig, it's going cost a lot though. New CPU, MOBO and RAM....etc.

You can get QX9650 (new) for around $600ish on eBay now, I just saw a used one went for $510 and I was tempting. I'm just keep my eyes peel at the moment though.

I'd rather scoop a new Q6600 for under $200, OC the snot out of it, and get better-than-QX performance, then use the money saved for a new 4870

9450 doesn't guarantee get you up to 4ghz even on water. This processor is still cost you around $350 and you can pick up a Q6660 for $190 at TigerDirect at the moment.
