Default E8400 to Q9550; worth it?

Sup ppl. New guy here to the forums. Currently I have my E8400. Profile rig. However, I have a opportunity to get a Q9550 E0 new in box for $260 shipped. Now, I know 775 is getting outdated. But I was thinking that a new quad with 12mb cache and try to find a 2nd HD4890 to crossfire, would be pretty good setup to hold me over till AMD's 6cores release and settle down.

    What ya guys think?
    Rig is in profile.

I'd say save the money. AMD's 6-core will be out within the next month or two, with one of them being priced lower than that Q9550.

Deeeeefinitely worth saving the money instead.

    Welcome to Pure OC, btw.

I am interested to see the performance from the 6 core. That might help you decide better.

Seeing some of the reviews of the new Intel 6 core I noticed that video encoding or graphic work would see a nice increase in performance over the Quad, but for games I think it will be a while as the current crop of games don't take full advantage of all four cores. I went from the 9550 to core i7 and have been very pleased with performance increase in games.
