Default Intel agrees to end chip war with rivals

Intel Corp (INTC.O) has agreed to stop using threats and unfair discounts to block its rivals, resolving a costly, high-profile legal battle over accusations it illegally smothered competition for over a decade.

The world's largest chip maker -- which managed to settle the U.S. Federal Trade Commission complaint without paying a cent -- also pledged to grant rivals access to its leading processor technology for six years.

Only good can come from this.

Here's a crazy thought..........Intel stops predatory pricing, etc.......and shares their tech with AMD (?!?!?!?!). Performance overall jumps for both competitors..........and then............wait for it.............they BOTH keep prices high. Consumers would then be forced to pay since there's no reason for Intel/AMD to offer cheaper prices.

They essentially agree to play nice to bring/keep prices up across the board. Rather than fighting for pieces of the consumer pie, they just nod and smile and grow the pie together and reap the benefits while the consumers get bent.

    Far fetched?

I think you hit it right on the money, Skyguy! Will be interesting to see what happens when both Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge and Bulldozer/Llano come out.

I'm not saying the glass is half empty. I'm actually saying to look at who's doing the serving and what they're charging you to drink the Kool-Aid that's in the half full/half empty glass. Then check that against what's in the Kool-Aid

And with the rumors of Sandy Bridge not being overclockable? That would leave everyone to turn to AMD for any sort of enthusiast and overclocking desires. Yet Intel gives up before this even comes to pass? Doesn't sound right......

Haha, from the way I see it,the war between Intel & AMD will never end until 1 of them goes down
