Default New DSL Modem won't connect with Wireless router.

To simplify things, I have an Asus Rt-ac66 wireless router that was working fine with our pervious modem. However the old modem was broken recently, non-repairable.

I just went to the store and purchased a Netgear ADSL modem and set everything up with the proper PPPoE settings for my DSL provider. When connected directly to the modem, any device can get an internet connection. However once I plug the modem into the router, the router fails to get an signal from the Modem.

    So the following are true:

    1) Previous modem and current router worked with out problems. This let's me of that the router is functioning properly.
    2) After setting up and testing the new Modem, any device with a direct connection to the modem can connect to the Internet.

    3) Once I link the Modem to my Router the router fails to get an internet signal.
*I have tried all sorts of reboots and when I go the the router settings it can't detect my PPPoE settings.

    I could use some help.

What is the model # of the modem? You may need to set it to bridge mode. May also need to set the router back to default and reprogram everything.

Who is your provider? you may want to try these steps or contact your provider for additional help.

Step 1. power down the modem and the router.

Step 2. connect a PC/Mac directly to the modem.

Step 3. power up the modem.

Step 4. verify you have internet over just the modem off the PC/mac. If you do skip to step 6.

Step 5. call your provider and have them provision the modem, then return to step 4.
(you must provide modem and HFCMAC or CMAC to them for provisioning)

Step 6. connect the router to the modem and power cycle the modem.

Step 7. after the modem ONLINE light goes SOLID, power up the router.

Step 8. connect your PC/Mac and other equipment to the router, wired or wireless.

Step 9. test for internet, make sure to give the devices ample time to get IP., DNS, etc..

I guess the question coursing through my mind is how did the modem go bad in the first place? If you had a storm that fried it, it could have fried your router too and it's hard to tell because the lights still come on. One way to make sure the router is still good and didn't fry with the modem is hook two PCs up and see if the network can discover both.
