Default Someone help with DSL before i pull my hair out!

let me first start by saying this has been an ongoing problem for MONTHS!

i reset my router 4-5 times a day, usually does not help
I call Verizon at least twice a week, who refuses to send a tech out to help and tells me there is nothing they can do? seriously?!

I live out in the country where unfortunately cable is no available. And im stuck with either Verizon or Satellite.

I used to be subscribed to the 1.5-3mbps plan "there fastest one" and used to get 2.1mbps. about 8-9 months ago i called to see if i could upgrade my speed and the lady said i could sign up for HSI which was basically 1-15mbps what ever my line could hold. GREAT! i noticed a couple days went by and eventually i ended up with a total speed of 3.8mbps. this was awesome! (this is fast for where i live) Now on to the problem.

i stayed at this speed for about 2-3 months. then all of a sudden one day i dropped down to 768kbps, I called verizon and they told me that there doing service on the lines and it should be up back to normal speed in no time. a couple weeks go by and now my speed is at 1mbps, So i called them again, this time a guy tells me that my address isint even servicable by verizon and im lucky that i can even get this speed because i should not even have DSL. I explained to the guy that i used to get a solid 3-3.5mbps no problem. And the tech trys arguing with me saying its impossible and there records show that i have never been able to get this speed because of how far away i am, and condition of there lines.

i KNOW i can get a faster speed because iv had it, for months like i said infact so im pretty sure this was not just some Fluke if you want to call it that, but i just cant get verizon to listen to me. Can anyone please help

You can see what speed your getting by logging into the modem. Been a while since I had DSL but there is something in there that is something like Uplink and downlink speed. These are set in stone so they don't always represent what you're getting, but will tell you what Verizon is actually rating your connection speed at. The Downlink speed should say 15,000kbps or around that figure if it's like other modems I've seen in the past. Then you use a speed test to see how close you're getting to that. Like I said, been a while since I messed with DSL but usually that info is on the home page of century link modems.

One way to get a business like that to shape up is to file a BBB complaint. Bigger companies try to keep their rating up and you can get responses when you wouldn't otherwise. Something to consider.

As of right now, my "downlink" says 1800kbps, speed test.net confirms this with a 1.77mbps download speed.... If seen this number ~3500kbps with sppedtests to support that, which I am very happy with seeing as how thats pretty much as fast as I can get, but when I call Verizon about it they want to argue with me and tell me it's physically impossible for my lines to carry that speed

The tech support don't know squat. The only way I've ever gotten any where is a BBB complaint. Simple fact is, they aren't even trying to give you what you're paying for because that speed is set on their end, not yours.

Well, I got a call about 20 min ago from a Verizon line tech looking for my house, I guess the lady on the tech support forgot to tell me she finally sent one? Either guy the guy said that my lines show that I can only support 1.5 but he said that he had the same problem at his house and he got them to turn it up and he gets a lot faster with no problem, and he's currently on the phone with the office to try and do the same for me, fingers crossed!

I hope they take care of you bro. Slow internet is a terrible thing to have. Since the line speed dropped back down did you stop paying for the HSI 1-15 service? My internet is from Timeawarner and it goes in and out all the time. Drives me nuts. Makes it hard to game online at times. Will have to go reset the box. Useless bastard. Hate Timewarner.

Well the guy was on the phone for 10-15 min and said there CO turned my speed up and anything over 2mbps crashed almost instantly..... I guess the months that I had over 2mbps was just a fluke? I wish I could get time Warner here! Other then Verizon dsl my only other option is satalite or a hotspot..... Unfortunately I would never be able to live with the 20-50gb data caps on those, or want to really pay the $100+ a month.... I guess I just live with that 1.8mbps I'm getting now

As far as the hsi goes.... Verizon only has this one plan, $29 a month and it's 1-15mbps what ever speed they provision you for.... Which I seem to get the low end of the stick and got stuck with ~1.5

well, called verizon AGAIN about my problem. The guy on the phone basically told me if i dont like there service as it is i need to cancel since there is no way possible to increase my speed, Completly ignoring the fact that i was able to support that speed for months. What ever, i have better things to spend my $30 a month on!, like NEW internet! haha. Does anyone have any suggestyions of a satellite/4g internet that dosent have a ridiculous cap like 5gb a month? im in Upstate NY

****, i would give an arm to get 20mbps unlimted connection!, the only internet i could find so far was something like hughes net, but even that had a 50gb/month cap, along with only being 7mbps, and also $170 a month, Yay me

Sucks too, Timewarner, which is comcast now i guess, ends there line literally less then a mile away from my house, Id probably say about 1,000 feet away, and iv called them and they said the cost to run the line is just too much for them to benefit off the 3-4 people that would hook up to it

well, i was on playing a few games with my friends lastnight, Internet goes down. Comes right back up, 3.5mbps.... huh, after days and days of people telling me to cancel because its physically impossible for my line to hold anyhting above 1.5 i magically get "good" speed again, its been here for about 8 hours now and not a single crash..... i guess we will see how long this lasts
