    Default Dual Boot?

Question - Would it be possible for me to keep the hdd with Win 8 in place and add an ssd with Win 7 installed for a dual boot scenario for the incoming MSI laptop? Possibly use the hdd for storage as well? I realize this will not be a true dual boot...I would have to select the desired drive in bios, but my intentions are to use the ssd/Win 7 almost exclusively.

I'm running a 480GB SSD with Win 7 Pro, and also a 1TB drive that already had Win 7 Ultimate installed, so you should be fine. My other systems running a 480GB PCI-e SSD & a 512GB SSD, both drives have Win 7 Pro installed, and no problems with that system either, you just have to go into your bios and select which drive you want to boot from.
    2nd system

    3rd system

ASUS ROG X79 Rampage 4 Formula, 3930K, Boreas Chiller, VisionTek 480GB, WD 750GB, 16GBs Kingston HyperX Red 1600MHz, Two GTX680s, OCZ 1250W, CM Stryker modded for the Boreas Chiller, 3 white Skull fans grills from MNPCTech.

You could also use easybcd and not have to settle on not being able to choose each Os at boot. EasyBCD - NeoSmart Technologies

All viable options for sure. I too have dual booted before on the same hard drive, but think I will opt for my solution to begin with on the new laptop. I'm just not convinced I will ever become a fan of Win 8...I'll preserve it for the time being on the second drive, but I bet in the end it will be deleted and forgotten. My prediction is to look for another OS to quickly follow Win 8...

Tee, but how is it as far as drivers, and can you game with this OS ? Rick, Win 8 and the rest of the new OS from MS to follow will most likely be the same thing. Tablets, and touch screens are here to stay, so MS has no reason to go back to what's best for desktop users.
All we can hope for is that they pay attention to what people are saying, and try to fix Win 8 so it's good for everyone

All we can hope for is that they pay attention to what people are saying, and try to fix Win 8 so it's good for everyone

i didnt try any games but they had some games for it. i didnt really do much with it but the basics. my music programs and usb soundcard didnt work with it though and wound up going back to W7. But i will say i liked it better than Ubuntu but they are similar.
You don't know me and that's the way i like it!
