    Default Msi gt70 onc-494us

Just arrived, but I must leave for work shortly. I will be adding a ssd to this one with Win 7 installed when I have the time. Will update with pic's the progress and performance as I go. Now...need to figure out what to use to remove the glue residue from the tacky decals I just peeled off.

Update: Several days in and here is my opinion for what it is worth...by far the worst product I have ever purchased.

Out of the box performance with Win 8 is pitiful...my netbook outperforms this piece of junk. I can't believe how slow this laptop is. Can't run benchmarks without glitching all over the place...if they will open at all. Win 8 video driver is not recognized by Futuremark and there are no alternatives available.

SSD install was a wonderful experience...took forever to get it recognized in the bios. The bios...what a joke. After two different installs of Win 7 on the ssd half of the components still do not function correctly. Utility/driver disc is worthless for Win 7 and nothing MSI offers on site is helpful. There are no compatible video drivers for the 670MX available.

Short story, this will probably go on ebay and I'll mark this one down as a complete failure.

I actually had a similar start experience with this laptop and i never did get windows 7 installed satisfactorily, however I did do a clean install of windows 8 and used one of the free start button programs and things started to work better.

a couple of tips for folks who buy this laptop.

before you wipe it and start over with a new os, first uninstill the mouse pad software "Synaptics Touchpad" they tried to make it windows 8 friendly but it just plain sucks.

you also need need a 2 video drivers one for intel and the other for nvidia. all drivers are on this page though some of them are not current they do work
    MSI Global ? Notebook & Tablet - GT70 0NC
the download from nvida for the latest drivers is here
Drivers | GeForcehere were a few other things as well if i remember i will post them up.

sense i did a fresh windows 8 install this laptop is totally awesome.

I must admit to getting a bit of a laugh at your expense, this laptop literally rocks. Though the unit you purchased is on the lower end of the GT70 scale, personally I own a Dragon edition of this model with RAID SSD and 32gb memory. Upgraded to the Beta EC firmware which has unlocked graphics overclocking, have also flashed the unlocked version of the newest BIOS so the CPU can be overclocked. MSI needs to keep the laptop locked down so people who are clueless are not shipping a RMA every 2 months. This laptop flies and will compete with pretty much anything out there once you do the BIOS and Firmware upgrades to unlock its potential, not for the faint of heart though, you need to know what you are doing.

A friend bought a mid range version of this model and I upgraded the stock HD to a intel SSD, moving the original HD to the second bay once the new Win 8 OS was installed on the SSD, beefed up his ram. No issues at all, we were gaming in no time at all.

Utility/driver disk? I have never used that in 20 years, every updated driver, BIOS, firmware and utility is on the MSI global website. Heck you can even download all the files with a phone and connect it to the laptop to install them.

Here is some information regarding this model laptop, it would appear this guy knows what he is doing.

I think if this dude gave it a chance he would have realized that his little netbook is not faster! I own this laptop and its an awesome machine, plays all games in high to ultra with no hick-ups. Just do a fresh install of windows 7 and your good to go! Before this laptop I had the Asus g74sx and that was awesome also, but the msi blows that thing out of the water in all area's. Don't listen to one upset guy and think the machine is crap, that's not the case. I upgraded my ram to 32gb and the hard drives to 2- 512gb ssd's and its set up on raid. The machine is absolutely SICK!
