    Default Laptop for College

Well, its getting down to time for me to get ready to head off in the Fall. I plan on being enrolled in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts and will be needing a laptop/mobile workstation. Like most of you, I am a dedicated desktop enthusiast and builder, but sadly, I need a laptop. Does anybody have any suggestions for a laptop that will do some extreme simulation loads? My budget is $1500-$2000. Currently I am looking at mainly HP EliteBook's and MSI GT60 workstation models. But if anyone has any other ideas I would be grateful.

    Thanks a lot!

The issue with consumer laptops is they tend not to do very well with heavy simulations. Gaming level graphics works very well for gaming, but graphics like nvidia quadro cards or AMD FirePro cards are geared to simulation. The others die trying to do high level ray-tracing and such lol thanks though!

Congrats, TCC! I'm heading off to college in the fall as well! Although my grades aren't high enough for either Engineering or University. I'm going for Computer Programmer/Analyst at Conestoga College. I wish you the best!

Congrats Criss! Yeah, I am fighting to get into the honors engineering program. Its hard work and I have to put a lot of time in constantly to keep everything going, but I feel its worth it. Good luck next year!
And Neil, thanks a lot, but yeah, I am not sure if it would be enough.

    I found this:
Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more! know its a bit pricey, but it certainly has everything I need. Any input?

I agree with Niel. Even getting a degree makes you much more qualified. You can always work your way up the ladder. To be fair as well, here all state schools are allowed to call themselves universities. But no matter where you go, your experience after college is as if not more important than your actual degree. You will do great things if you just do your best!

Chris, congrats on even making the next step in life to want to pursue a collegiate degree. Don't make your disability an excess. Just overcome in by out working the next individual. You can and will achieve greatness as long as you believe in it.

As an Dell fan (using Dell laptops for more then a 15 years), I would suggest you to see those two Dell offers:
    1. Dell Precision M3800 Mobile Workstation - Option 1
    2. Dell Precision M3800 Mobile Workstation - Option 2

    Always look beyond the limits...
