    Default Asus Transformer Pad TF103

Here you go, my wife is looking for a tablet, budget is $500 or less. After looking around and checking reviews, she likes the Transformer for it's versatility and price point. Her needs are surfing the net, watching movies and general usage. The 10 inch screen is "mandatory". Is this a good buy or is there something better?

Nice choice. The Atom Processor handles Android rather well. Some of the previous Transformer Tablets had some issues with the GPS and Wifi radios. Hopefully that has been corrected. Overall for that price you cant beat it.

Have you considered a Windows Tablet? Windows 8/8.1 gets a bad rap for the desktop but it outstanding on a 10" tablet. NOT the crappy RT version for ARM devices. Go with the Atom Quad core or the i3. I found the Atom handles windows pretty smoothly. only draw back is not as many Apps as IOS or Android. Most of those Apps counts are fluff. Each version of an app counts as one, same app under 4 different names, BS like that. MS count is without the BS.. Good quality apps just not the millions the others have.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just checked the reviews there and at Tech Radar, and that's a good combo. Win 8.1 and MS Office is an even better package for her needs. As for 8.1, it's definitely a touch-centric os. My son has an MSI gaming laptop, 17.5 inch screen, forgot the model#, but it came with 8.1. He's gotten used to it with one of the "win 8 fixes" installed, but for me, it's just plain annoying. I'm off to show this to the Mrs. and hopefully, within the next couple weeks she won't need to use my son's MSI anymore!

Cool. Hope she digs it as well. Over the coming months I want to switch an all windows environment for seem less integration. If I work on a document on my tablet, I want to continue later on my laptop, quick edit from my phone. All without transferring files. Before anyone says Google docs, I use it and it doesn't do everything I need and it is different for tablet vs PC. Don't like it.

Game data transfer across all devices including the Xbox. Control the Xbox with my phone or tablet. Just a Lot I f small stuff in can't do now or have to do extra steps to get it done. Android is getting on my nerves and apple will never be an option for me. Time to make it easy on myself. Lol give us an update

Looks like my wife is going to finally get her tablet. It'll be the T100. We'll order on Friday. She does like to watch movies now and then, so, I'm looking at external Blu-Ray drives at the Egg, kind of pricey and not much to choose from. The Pioneer and Samsung look good, but I'm a little out of my element here. Also, from reading some of the reviews from most of the drives there, I may have to pay for software to actually watch movies on it. Time for some more knowledge, Teach, what's up?
