    Default cudaminer+cgminer

    Hi guys

I'm new to this, and i don't know a much about mining. But is it possible to mine with both cudaminer and cgminer simultaneously on two different cards? is it even possible to run an amd and nvidia card at the same time? i'm asking because i already have a gtx780 hitting 550 KH/s running cudaminer, and i have aquired a R9 280x cheap from a friend. i don't have the money yet to make an entire new rig for mining, so this could be a great way of optimizing my available hardware if it's possible .

I've heard that the Radeon cards mine better, but I don't have any experiance mining, so I'm not sure.

I have run both types of cards at the same time in the past, but there may be driver issues these days.

Maybe running one of the programs within a virtual machine would work?

yeah the amd cards should be a lot better at mining, what virtual machine would you suggest?

AMD cards are a lot better at mining. That is why they are harder to find and the price has sky rocketed.

but is it possible to run an Nvidia card and an AMD card at the same time though?

because i already have the amd card lined up, just need to pay for it. i haven't found anything saying i couldn't have both cards in the same system at the same time, as long as i dont try to game on them simultaneously.

There are some reported driver hacks that will allow you to have them in the same system at the same time. You will have to search around for it. I do not know if the mining software will allow this or not. to me it seems like a huge hassle but I see why you are willing to try it.

    Default Re: cudaminer+cgminer

found these threads after some more research

mining - Can I mine with CGMiner or BfgMiner with both an AMD and NVidia GPU on the same MOBO? - Bitcoin Stack Exchange

    http://www.reddit.com/r/litecoinmini...and_an_nvidia/

and it doesn't seem to be a problem with mining on both cards, at the same time, with different miner, e.g cudaminer for the nvidia an cgminer for the amd.

so i'm going to give this a shot i think and hope for the best will report back how it goes

well from what i understand, you HAVE to install the nvidia as your main card, and then install the amd card, otherwise the nvidia driver messes things up and nothing should work. But i should be able to mine from the amd card while playing from the nvidia card, though most people report a lot of lag when doing this.
