    Angry ARG! Still no RAM...

Its now been a month since I ordered the RAM for my new computer AKA: "The Big Rig".
Unfortunately for me the RAM I ordered is very rare. I managed to pre-order it when it was very cheap (its now gone up in price to expected market level of £350 or $688).

If I continue to wait, and it does get delivered, I will get some wicked RAM and at a good price. But unsurprisingly Iím getting tired of waiting. I also donít have any spare DDR2 RAM in stock.

In case youíre wondering, the supplier is overclockers.co.uk, however they say its their supplier thatís not turned up with the RAM.

    Your thoughts?

I needed some decent latency 2GB sticks (2GB each), so I opted for the 2x GB Kingston HyperX PC2-6400C4 kit available from overclockers.co.uk, which I managed to get for ~£250 before they raised the price. Not a bad price at all, If I ever get to see the sticks.

Had a quick look round the interweb....

That Mushkin isnít available in the UK as yet, and similar products are few and far between.

Their is some G.Skill PC2-6400 kits @ CL6 for £295 and CL5 for £330, and some others around that are even slower or more expensive.

I think Iím just going to have to wait it out, its just annoying having to wait.

Cheers for the link anywho Jameson

@ Smith, As long as they use the same timings and you use them in a dual channel configuration it should work. (I donít think mixing would work, IE: one 2GB stick and three 1GB sticks.)

@ TVasconcelos, I know of supertalent, I have had an eye on them recently for their SSD IDE flash drives. If you have any info on 4GB kits can you please share? Ta.

Right, turns out overclockers.co.uk have withdrawn the Kingston HyperX 4GB kits because their supplier cannot get stock. Even worse, I only found this out when I phoned them this morning.

    Muppets...

Any way, I now have a choice between the following, let me know what you think.

    G.Skill 4GB(2x2G PC2-6400 5-5-5-15 @ £305.49
    or
    OCZ 4GB(2x2G PC2-6400 5-6-6-15 @ £220.75

Your opinions pleases.... just how much difference is 5-5-5-15 vs 5-6-6-15 going to make, because I havenít got a clue. :$

BTW, @ the time of writing this, these were the best value for money 4GB PC2-6400 kits I could find available to the UK.

    31 Days Later
    (working days)

Managed to negotiate with overclockers.co.uk to send the G.Skill PC2-6400 5-5-5-15 for the same price as the original Kingston HyperX PC2-6400 CL4.

Hopefully arriving tomorrow, going to be a real test to see if the ASUS Striker can squeeze any more out of the ram.

Good deal, you can always overclock the timings if need be right, because i don't think that 6-6 to 5-5 is worth 100 pounds
