    Default 2600(OC).....huh?

My MB supports DDR3 2600(OC)/2400(OC)/2133(OC)/1866(OC)...what is that saying? Is it saying my MB can support 2600 ram but it have to be overclocked or can I use 2600 w/o OC'ing?

    Thanx

If you fit memory that is rated at any of those speeds it will, either automatically, or with a little help from you changing settings, run memory at that speed.

You may also find that there are a lot of memory settings that you can change which may allow you to improve the performance of a slower set of ram.

Any set of ram is likely to overclock even if only a little. Here, as with motherboards and cpu's some do better than others
    Rig2: 2*e5-26xx (16c/32t @2.4), Asus z9 pe-d8 ws, 32gb ripjawsz under water, rig3 2*e5-26xx (16c/32t @2.4), Supermicro 7047A-T 16GB 1600 ecc reg, on air, Rig4: 2*e5-26xx (16c/32t @3.1), Supermicro x9 DAi 16GB 1600 ecc reg, on air, Rig5: 2*e5-2660 (16c/32t @2.7), Supermicro x9 DRW iF 32GB 1600 ecc reg, on air

Just cause it says 2600MHz does not automatically mean memory modules reach 2600MHz.

Yes, your mb only supports these frequency in the c. Example of a module 2133MHz with JEDEC frequency of 1600MHz, if you install this module on your mb it will operate in the frequency to run at JEDEC often labeled by the manufacturer (for 2133MHz), choose the frequency manually or turn on XMP.

Not always Doomas. I am testing a set of modules now that will not boot to XMP profile. Usually the will work on XMP tho.

Motherboard compatability can also be an issue with some RAM. That's why they post a list of memory that they've tested the motherboard with.
