Arrow Corsair Announces Six New Dual-Channel DDR3 Memory Kits

    From overclockersclub.com
Corsair today announced it has added six new part numbers that include a series of DDR3 dual-channel memory modules designed for Intel's soon to be released Lynnfield processors. With the new Core i5/i7 CPUs Intel is targeting the mainstream market and has moved to a more traditional dual-channel memory controller instead of the triple-channel controller found on the Nehalem Core i7 architecture. Corsair is covering the bases with four 4GB (2 x 2G kits and a pair of 8GB (2 x 4G kits. There are four new members of the XMS memory lineup in speeds ranging from 1333-1600MHz; both of the 8GB parts are XMS series kits. For those wishing to move up the performance food chain Corsair has added a 1600MHz Dominator model and a 2000MHz Dominator GT kit. Both the Dominator modules feature C8 timings with the other kits using C8 and C9. Prices range from $117 - $240 online with Corsair announcing immediate availability.
Now when I noticed that these kits were going to be dual channel, a smile crossed my face. I've been personally waiting for better DDR3 dual-channel kits to hit the market. NOT because Intel is releasing a new line of processors (again LOL), but because the Phenom II's have had to deal with older memory modules rated at MUCH higher voltages. Well, while I was looking up info over at Corsair's website (here), I found a link a little farther down the page where Corsair did some pretty amazing testing comparing 4GB in a system vs. 8GB of memory (link). This is the part that really made me smile from ear to ear: Despite the fact that these memory modules are being marketed for the new Core i5 platform, guess what they used for the testing?

    An AMD Phenom II system!!!

So, since the MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 board supports up to DDR3-2133, and up to 16GB of system memory, it looks as if I have found the memory I'll be using in my upcoming build once its released.

[Now to sell my current setup up to afford the "upgrade" from Core i7 to AM3]

As an update to all that have read this thread, it seems as though NCIX has put these up on their site. They are not yet in stock, but it is nice to see what the pricing is going to look like.

the link above is for the Corsair XMS3 Dominator 8GB DDR3 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL 8-8-8-24 Core I5 Memory Kit, which will also work in many AM3 motherboards as well. Looks like my next build is getting more expensive as I await new parts to come out. $600 for 16 GB of memory doesn't seem too bad of a price, considering I'll be able to run this rig for several years to come.
