    Default Eyefinity vs Nvidia Surround

What is the current thinking on these setups?

Is 1 better than the other?

Assuming enough GPU "horsepower" do they hinder performance?

Is it just a gimicky thing or do people who have seen these setups or have them for their own computers like them after the extra expense?

Are there any hiccups or problems with using these setups?

    Thanks in advance

Those running Multiple monitors can address problems if any with the setups.
From my research, Have to jump thru a few hoops from time to time to get them to play nice.
    Thanks in advance
They both do pretty much the same thing.

The ability to run more than one monitor and depending on card count and ports available the ability to run
    up to six monitors.

Research cabling as to the brand of card your running, Eyeinfinity(AMD), or Surround (Nvidia).

On board sound is pretty good these days. Radeon cards can run 3 monitors with 1 card. Nvidea cannot.

Ok you just lost me there.

What do Eyefinity or Nvidia surround have to do with onboard sound?

Im sorry, but I have no clue what you are talking about.

Drdeath said "onboard sound is pretty good these days" which is what confused me.

I am aware that AMD is Eyefinity, that Nvidia Surround is Nvidia, and both are technologies available to use multiple monitors to display 1 cohesive image.

Other than that now Im even more confused than before since I never mentioned anything about surround sound, or even sound at all....

AMD - Eyefinity you can run 3 displays using 1 GPU card.
Nvidia - Surround you need to have 2 GPU in SLI mode to be able to run Surround.

They are pretty much the same, except Nvidia costing more money to be able to handle 3+ displays in surround mode since you need TWO GPU to be able to handle it.. However the new GTX680 is the first High end Single Nvidia GPU that can handle 3+ display on a single card.

Other then that they are pretty much the same.
Just Diff UI and control panel.

Common thinking use to be that AMD was better for multimonitor setups due to the ability to run three monitors on one card, but that has changed with the GTX680 because it can run up to four monitors on one card. With newer games though, I would want two cards for any multimonitor setup. Also, my AMD card (6950 and 7970) run HOT when connected to more than one monitor. I will water cool the 7970 before going back to dual or triple monitors. Don't know how the 680 does temp wise on multimonitor.

Just can't get my head around more than one good monitor.

Have been able to try and use double and triple monitors in things like gaming and a few
    Apps and don't like them.
Even stacking the bezels doesn't help.

Now, If it was a Wrap Around setup, And I was Bill Gates, No Problemo

Default Re: Eyefinity vs Nvidia Surround

Ya I dont think Im going to go with Eyefinity or Surround, but it never hurts to brainstorm, ask questions, and get hardware that can be upgrades or can handle future projects should I change my mind

Thanks to everyone for all of the good advice thus far.

Not a big fan of eyefinity for gaming because of the bezels, but it is great for my work where I have to review multiple documents and webpages at the same time and take notes too. I like having the legal brief I'm working on in one monitor and my westlaw or pdf files open in the other.

    Agree,

Planning to get a nice Cheap, Used 17" LCD on Craig's List that will set in allocated space next to the rig
and just use it for Apps, benching, ect.

    Vid Card comes first.
    Eye-Infinity/3d Surround, Jury's still out.

Do you use Portrait mode on your 2nd monitor??

For Eyefinity or surround you have to make sure to have displays that have the thin bezel, I have the asus LED displays that have the 1/3" bezel all around.
I also have my displays set-up to wrap and not straight accross. Its hard to see all 3 displays unless you have them angled properly. I had at hard time adjusting mine to the right angle. Took a little playing around with, But I have is mounted on a XFX stand which helped with making the adjustments.

But like Sam said, it does heat up the cards. Which is why i had my GPUs under water. on the stock cooler my 6950 heat up to about 80c at full load... But on water I don't hit more then 50c under load now..
