Default Windows 7 SP1 Wireless adapter stops working

Just thought id give a bit of a heads up to people who are updating as this is a problem i suddenly faced which nicely stressed me out and took a while of searching to solve.
When i updated to SP1 my wireless adapter was visible to windows but my wireless connection was disabled. When i diagnosed the problem through windows it simply said "there may be a fault with the wireless adapter" which was incorrect, but either way i couldnt connect.
It will also mention if you look at a more detailed report about ip binding problems too.

The key solution which seems to pop up many places is to uninstall and reinstall you security software as this has normally blocked the adapter connecting for some reason. Im not 100% sure on the specifics but it worked for me and for many others online.

Hopefully no one will have this problem but could save a few hours so felt it worth posting.

Yeah just hoping it saves some guys some time as people on here have saved me hours of messing!
If you google that problem theres thousands of forum threads with no fixes generally.
Just saw the remove security software pop up twice, figured it was worth a shot!

    Thanks for the heads up.

Wasn't an issue for me either.

What was the security program that you had to re-install?

It was Kaspersky, and literally as soon as it had uninstalled my internet went straight on. It just happend this morning, updated SP1 last night installed some fans this morning and no more net. Seems like it might be if you disconnect your adapter after the update it can cause problems

I had the same problem. Right after I installed SP1, my wireless connection was gone. The little wireless icon in the corner said I was connected, but I had no internet access. It took me 2 days to get it working again. Like you, I tried the troubleshooter which kept telling me it was my router, which was incorrect, and although I'm still not completely sure what was causing the problem, I suspect it was McAfee, at least partially. I had been having issues anyway because I believe I had some spyware or a trojan that Mcafee apparently wasn't handling (big surprise there!). Once I finally got reconnected, I uninstalled McAfee and downloaded Microsoft Essentials which found the Trojan right off the bat and got rid of it.

Now I'm afraid to install SP1 for fear I'll have to go through the wireless connection issues again!

Another thing that may have caused a problem -- I have the capability to connect to my office computer and there is apparently a network adapter installed that connects to the server at work. Should this be somehow disabled before I update to SP1? I'm no expert so please forgive my ignorance on the subject, but it seems like the network adapter that connects to the office server might have caused the internet connect problem -- like it was trying to to connect through the office network adapter rather than my home wireless adapter -- is that possible?

I'd like to know what other issues people have experienced as a result of the SP1 download and what is the trick to installing it smoothly.

I have installed SP1 20-30 times without problems. But I don't use Kaspersky or McAfee either. I usually keep the internet disconnected and Install SP1 first thing when loading my Win-7 64Bit. (I have it on a flash drive)
