    Default Win 7 upgrade

I had an interesting conversation with my daughter .She just went in to Future Shop, Best Buy and Staples trying to buy Win 7 Upgrade and the genius' s there tried to tell her she could only upgrade from Vista not XP (guess they don't read the packaging lol). She went to the stores with my 15 year old Grandson since shes not very computer literate . When my grandson heard the salesmens spiel he turned to him and asked him what kind of idiot was he . They don't train their people very well .hehe!

Technically the saleman was right. You can't upgrade from XP to Win7. You have to do a clean install and then reinstall all the programs from XP that you want to run on Win7. When installing Win7 on a computer that already has XP on it the installation will move all of your XP programs to a folder named windows.old. The programs will not run from there.

This is absolutely true. It takes forever to perform these operations. It may appear as an upgrade but it is not. So technically the sales person is correct. However he could have been more educated and explained the differences between upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista versus Xp. So he scores a partial truth in statement. C-

I realize that its a clean install however If you read the insert inside the box it say's " Upgrading from Windows XP? "and gives a list of steps to follow . But that is just semantics. Basically what the salesman said was you could only use the software from vista and not xp .Essentially implying that she needed to buy a copy of vista for the upgrade to work sorry that i did not make that clear in my original post .

YOU CANNOT UPGRADE FROM XP TO WIN7
If you do a clean install it is NOT an upgrade. Thread should be over. LOL
