Default Windows 8 adoption rate at a standstill

In the month of February, according to Net Applications, Windows 8 gained 0.4% of the desktop market, moving from 2.26 to 2.67%. In comparison, Windows 7 had a market share of over 9% after four months of public availability. A growth rate of 0.4% is absolutely horrendous, and — if we assume that PCs are replaced every five years — actually below the natural attrition/replacement rate. If growth of 0.4% wasn’t bad enough, it’s also worth pointing out that it’s down from 0.5% in January — yes, Windows 8 adoption is slowing down.
At this point, it isn’t entirely clear how Microsoft intends to spur the adoption of Windows 8. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but Windows Vista actually enjoyed faster growth than Windows 8 — and we know all too well how the Vista story played out. Despite selling Windows 8 at a massively discounted price of $40 for three months (it’s now $200), and sales boosts from Black Friday and Christmas, it’s clear that Windows 8 has failed to take off

Why would anyone in their right mind in home and business update to windows 8
I can see it on portable devices and slowly move onto laptops but its going to be a long hard road in all the other areas
just look how long it took small business to move to win 7 from XP

This is an unrelated quote but one that actually tells the story rather well.... Users are voting with their wallets....

"Cliff Bleszinski, formerly of Epic Games, posted a blog entry titled 'Nickels, dimes, and quarters' yesterday, advocating that gamers dissatisfied with the current trend toward DLC and microtransactions should vote with their wallets. Quoting: 'The video game industry is just that. An industry. Which means that it exists in a capitalistic world. You know, a free market. A place where you're welcome to spend your money on whatever you please or to refrain from spending that money. ...
To make users buy win 8 the only thing MS can do is remove 7 from the market...... and risk losing it all!!

Windows 8 is a weather report in a tabloid. It's just something to be discussed and debated, to give geeks something to write about. The simple truth though, is that nobody cares. It's Windows 8. So what. Do we need it? No.

MS should have have been working on a service pack 2 for Win 7 instead of waisting time and money on a OS that most people to not want or care for, or just released it for tablets, even laptops run better on Win 7.

I use windows 8, the metro start menu is useless. The only metro app I have ever used is the new minesweeper... And I've been using it for what? 4 months now? I don't think it's as bad a people say it is but it is definitely not an improvement over windows 7 and I would never pay for it. (I got it free with the WMC glitch.)

Haven't had many W8 issues. The only thing I like about metro is that it allows me to launch my programs faster, but otherwise it is quite cumbersome with kb/m.
