Default Windows 10 ISO's are up!

    All,

If you were thinking about getting Win10, Microsoft has done us the kindess of providing in an ISO download, not just Windows Update links.

I expect the ISO will be time limited (in other words if you don't activate a particular license key within a Year, you won't be able to upgrade that Key later).

    But here it is: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...d/windows10ISO

I'm already downloaded my reserved Win 10 installation and converted it to iso (install.esd to en_windows_10_pro_10240_x64_dvd.iso), easily with this tool: ESD Decrypter 4.7. Download link and how to:
Instructions: Create a bootable ISO file using ESD Image for - Microsoft Community

If you reserved a copy it would already be on your PC when you woke up this morning. Click that stupid Win 10 icon and it will show that it has already been downloaded. just hit continue and it will install.

Yea, I already installed Win10 on one of my test benches and its all JACKED UP right now. The drivers on some of the devices are not loaded properly and also it won't read my GPU drivers. I might have to do another fresh reinstall and see what happens.

And that is why I never install new OS's when they are released. Thanks for being my lab rat.

    Gee, thanks! hahahahahahaha..

I though I would give it a try on my test bench before my I do it on my other PC's.
lucky its just a test bench so installing a new OS is not a big deal. But what a pain for those that are converting over.

I installed it on my laptop (as W7 update), and it's working as a charm. 00.00 problems. It recognized everything without problems (devices, drivers, personal settings...).

So far, I have had only two glitches and one annoyance.

Initially I thought that the OS was an absolute slug. Then I realized that Win 10 completely ignored the ASUS power management software and had my PC in power saving mode with the CPU running at 33% speed.... Got that straightened out and it seems to run very smoothly.

The other glitch is CPUID HW Monitor, it locks the computer up when I open it. Uninstalled and no problem.

The annoyance is the setup. "Express Settings" may as well be labeled "Let Microsoft Have Free Reign of Your Computer" - yeah, no thanks. Also, Windows Defender was pretty adamant about staying enabled, and at the same time disabling my Webroot AV/Firewall. That took a few tries to get it to stick. Getting to settings is different, but is actually fairly intuitive.

The mail app actually seems pretty good, and actually does work with Gmail. I won't be leaving Thunderbird for it, but it seems far nicer than the convoluted mess known as "Outlook".

The more I'm using it, more and more I'm satisfied with it. Just downloaded some small utility programs for tweaks and I was able change the color scheme (window title bars, etc.), logon screen, deactivate the homegroup, MS cloud, lock screen...
Referring to a boot and overall speed; it's a bit faster (on my laptop ssd drive), than W7 I had before.

Update on my end, I had my test bench run all the updates and also I had to reinstall my motherboard drivers. For some reason, the update dropped all my MB drivers off its platform. So I had no USB drivers, video drivers, chipset drivers, and basically anything that would happen when you do a fresh install. It should have carried over, but don't know what exactly happened.

Once I had all that squared away, no issues right now. But I haven't had a chance to test some of my applications just yet, so I can report back when I have more time to play with the platform.

If all goes well, I may pull the trigger on my update on my Samsung Ultrabook, I had down graded this laptop from Win8 to Win7 when I first bought it.
