    Default Windows 10 Anniversary

Hey guys, did someone installed the W10 Anniversary edition yet? Tell us your experience. I've installed it yesterday on my home PC and still had no time to compare it.

Fast ring insider here, well was. No need to be anymore. The anniversary edition is what I think Windows 10 needs to be. Looks a bit more polished, runs smoother and is certainly less buggy, short of my Cam software that needs an update now. I feel like some of the options to turn stuff off you don't want is a bit easier too. Overall, big fan of Windows 10, especially for gaming.

I had actually installed Win 10 on my laptop a while ago. I haven't had any real complaints since I learned my way around it. The first couple of days with the Anniversary upgrade has gone smoothly, and feels a bit more intuitive, especially in the start bar. There is a pretty nice list of new features here (and Dark Mode looks exactly like Ubuntu....which I haven't figured out of is good or bad.....) - The Windows 10 Anniversary Update's best new features | PCWorld

I want to hate Win 10 in general.....and I just don't. I mean, I know it's spying on me, but if Microsoft and the NSA really want to read my posts on OCN, listen to my music collection (it would likely broaden the listener's horizons) and look over my CapX budgets for next year, they must be pretty hard up for entertainment.

With the exception of quirks with my DAC that I got ironed out, it has been pretty flawless. No better than Win 7 in that regard, but the functionality and convenience have definitely been improved for the average user. The Groove and Netflix apps on my HTPC are far better than Win 7 variations, and productivity integration is better in my work environment. If I start feeling it's too invasive, I'll simply switch back to Win 7 or go full on Mint.

That's funny as I feel exactly the way you do, and like it a lot on my HTPC for the same reasons lol!
As far as invasive I have shut off everything I could that did not interfere with the operating system.

Mint would be the best path at this point, will be supported for the next few years at least.
I agree, although there will be snooping at least I'm not going to willingly become a product for MS to make a buck off of. Win 10 goes too far and I've already made the switch to Mint and did the same with the wife's PC.

I did get the Win 10 freebie before the 29th and it's stashed just in case I'd ever need it but Mint is working great here and I don't see a need to go back. Still have my installs of Win 7 and all else onhand for benching and what-not.

Much of it can't be disabled. 10 is nothing more than glorified spyware AFAIC.
Windows 10 phones home (A LOT) even with all reporting and telemetry disabled

As Vinny said, I've shut off everything that I could, beside, l am not afraid of spying... have nothing to hide and as a Ciarlatano said, if they want to spy and listen my music, my movies, read my books... They could rich and open their minds and generally raise the cultural level.

If you're OK with the possibility that MS could be watching everything you do, maybe including keystrokes, that is your choice. I'm not so trusting.

    Default Re: Windows 10 Anniversary

So...I installed Anniversary last night (sorry, it was the first time the box has been on in 3 months) and color me unimpressed. While I'm sure there were a boatload of bug fixes, all I got out of the release notes was "Here is our Sexy Walled Garden, look at the new fences around it to keep it pretty...there is nothing to see outside...". On the plus side, at least it booted, and gave me no actual problems.

At this point I'm solidly in the Mint Camp!

Although, my next laptop is likely to be one of these: https://puri.sm/

    But, but, but.....Bash Shell!

The Purism looks interesting, but the price tag doesn't. The 10" tab is $599 and specs out like a $250 ASUS. The rest of the line seems to follow suit with the pricing being very high for the hardware included.

LOL...c'mon you grew up with DOS...Bash is much better...lol

Yeah, you're paying for the low volume, and it's an Ultrabook (essentially), so you're paying the Ultrabook Tax. I think a big part is the solid aluminum case too. Although most of that price premium is the privacy tax.

A good Ultrabook certainly approaches those prices, but you're right. I'm probably going to get one though. If for no other reason than to support a company that is _trying_ to respect our privacy!

Well, I upgraded last night and almost all of my games can't be installed. It seems that I have to wait for another time.
I will downgrade to Win 8 and wait until Win 10 become more stable. Haha

I have been running it for a month now with no issues at all. I like the new start layout better.
