    Default Free Anti-Virus Software

I'm using Avast but after last night ordeal I may switch to Microsoft Security Essentials.

Avast updated itself last night and started to flag every program on my PC. I couldn't even play games.. It has since been fixed but it left me with a bad impression.

    Which do you use?

    1. AVG
    2. Microsoft Security Essentials
    3. Avira
    4. Avast

Years ago I would've agreed that AV software was unnecessary, but there are so many vectors now (Flash, PDF's, etc.) that using a particular browser is no longer adequate. FireFox's "NoScript" plugin is probably the single best thing you can do to protect yourself, but even then I'd recommend an AV for scripts you have to allow and other vectors.

I use Avast!, Firefox + NoScript + W.O.T. (Web of Trust), and about 3 different Anti-Malware programs set to run through the task scheduler.

someone recommended Eset to me and ive never looked back. i never know its there but im confident its doin its thang... i highly recommended it for the 50 bucks.
note... from what ive heard getting a free version of something is like getting 50% the protection of a purchased product. ive always paid the money to get peace of mind security cuz i hate those viruses.

MSE for me. I run it on 5 systems here in the house and all systems are AOK!

I have started suggesting it to friends and clients and everyone has been very happy thus far...

I just made the switch to MSE, and I'm finding I like it better than Avast. It already found a few things that Avast had missed.

Made yet another switch tonight, and I'm thinking that this might be the one for me. Just installed Comodo Internet Securtiy, and CPU usage is down compared to MSE. Also comes with their award winning Firewall (Windows Firewall doesn't block outgoing commenctions).

Just don't fall for their Pro Version. It costs $40 per year, for another service that allows their team to remotely fix PC problems. If you know enough to check forums or you can use Google, then that service is not needed. But the free Firewall and Anti-Virus is great.

I use Avg for antivirus & Comodo for its firewall.
A lot of the Comodo "stuff" goes right over my head but I,ve never had any conflicts, and been using both of these for a long while.
Also,to top these two up I regularly use one of these below, all are on my desktop ready to use:-
    adv.system care
    malware anti-malware
    super anti -spyware free
    and old timers-
    spybot search and destroy
    ad aware
I do not buy any progs now and rely on free ware only and it does for me
