    Default Steam Challenger

Microsoft launches Games for Windows Marketplace November 15.

Steam beware as Microsoft is planning to make a big push into the online distribution market by opening up the Games for Windows Marketplace, a PC games web store offering titles from the likes of Microsoft Game Studios, 2K Games, Capcom, Rockstar, Warner Brothers, and others. The Games for Windows Marketplace is set to go live on November 15 with a line-up of 100 top-quality titles, and is claimed to have a clean and intuitive look and feel, game searching by name or genre, promotions like Deal of The Week, and support for Microsoft Points and credit card purchasing. People will need a Windows Live ID (Windows Live, Xbox LIVE, Games for Windows - LIVE or Zune account) to buy games from the store.

If this is anything like the crap that is Games for Windows Live, oh man are they in for a rude awakening. I've never used such a piece of trash before. Love or hate Steam, you have to admit it's a pretty slick setup, easy to use. M$ stuff was just utter rubbish.

Microsoft will never do cheap, which is why they will never beat Steam. Can you see Microsoft running weekend sales all the time ? this would never happen, their to money hungry.

I can see both of these co-existing. But Steam has a major edge.
Valve is a Steam exclusive. Steam is also a developed social gaming network, this is one of the Games for Windows Marketplace major downfall, because nobody uses it, why will anyone port over when all their friends are on steam.

I think this is going to be replacing the DRM Microsoft uses as a medium against piracy.

Since it's Microsoft they're going to try and get into whatever business they can. If they could do something like XBOX arcade for PC's or even compete with Steam sales it may not be too bad. I'm getting sick of the crappy console ports so unless that's improved I doubt I'd buy many of the games.
