    Default Half-Life 2 problems

i know iv come into this quite late on but its nice and cheap now so i made the holiday pack purchase. The only thing is, is the game keeps crashing and its quite frequent. everytime it loads up a new section it takes a while sometimes loads then a few seconds after it just freezes and dies. my pc spec can definitely handle the game so i cant understand why it keeps doing this.iv got everything at stock too so theres no overclock weirdness going on.

Does it always crash at the same point in the game or at different times? Are you running it in offline mode? I would update the cards drivers to the latest. Also make sure everything is up to date with HL2, I would assume it is since you just installed it.

it seems to be at every save point or when i save it that it triggers a crash because i can play from the place it crashed last time but then the next save/loading point i get a crash again, or if i try to save in the menu that really kills it.

my drivers are the latest ones the 158.22 drivers for the 8600gts card, which is why i cant think why it keeps doing this.its annoying though.

What are the settings you play at (resolution, etc)? Are you running Vista?

from what i remember everything is set on high, filtering is on trilinear, hdr where available, and reflect world. these are also my cs:s settings which work perfectly fine for that. im running windows xp home edition.

its only so annoying because i have to restart my whole pc everytime it does it.im going to try cs:s and see if that crashes at all.hope not now!!!

Right click your Half Life 2 icon on your desktop (the one you would normally double-click to launch the game). Then click Properties. Click the Shortcut Tab. In the line labeled Target, you will see something like this, depending on where you put the program when you installed it:

    "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 22

Copy and paste the following AFTER the above line:

    +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

Be sure there is a space between -applaunch 22 and +mat

hope that helps, it helped me, i had the same problem.
