Default Serious Sam night + beer (bring your own!)

Hearing of Duke Nukem again reminded me of another game that is just amazing to play in co-op mode online. I think its possible to join a server and play together between quite a few people.

This game is old (i'm talking about The Second Encounter, not SS2), and the net code is a bit poor, but you can't beat fighting a horde of 1000 monsters racing towards a team of 6 human players.

So i thought, shall we all get the game and give it a shot one night at a specific time? We are all in diff countries so i'm not sure how latency will play on this, but we can try. whoever has the biggest upload speed on there connection (and a good spec PC) can host the server and play on the same PC.

some retro gaming! anyone up for it?

PureOverclock doesn't condone piracy, but if it did, it would probably be the best piracy in the world.

you will need the USA patch 1.7 from here.

After that it will be hit or miss, as i do remember the netcode being a bit iffy. We will have to find out how many players at once we can handle without slow down, and so on.

oh good i can post no the problem (as i messaged to jameson) is that it doesnt recognise dual cores. so, to fix it you need to run the game, open task manager, right click the process and choose "set affinity" then set it to just one core. this fixes the lag. if you dont do this it wont use the CPU atall and will be insanly laggy.

EDIT: btw you will have to do this each time you load it, a pain but worth the hassle. there also appears to be some problems with v-sync causing graphical glitches but i think that just my machine being a pain.

its a really damn good game, and very hard on single player. im stuck on the first level just after you get the sniper rifle and your against this massive number of enemies.

    I'm ready for it!

But why don't we just use Hamachi, and play over a virtual LAN ?!

Then we should be able to play as many as the game supports, without any problems.

Windows, Linux, OSX ... Doesn't matter.

smith, have a dig around the net there should be a fix somewhere. and if we are in agreement ill download that program chillfactor. although, we could just play over the games normal internet system as it allows you to specify an ip and lock servers etc.

    Yeah.. That'll need some coordination.

Now because of daylight savings and so on...

    I'm in: GMT+2
    Yblad: GMT+1
    Jameson: GMT+1
    Smith: ????

Where in the world are you Smith ?
If you're in New York, it's GMT-4, which means you are 5 hours "behind" Jameson and Yblad.
Texas is GMT-5 and Oregon is GMT-7.

It shouldn't be too hard to figure out. If those of us from europe wait till late evening/night, the timezones shouldn't be a problem.

    i'm in for saturday.

I was just testing the game, i'm on an x800 gto peice of junk at the mo but it's quiet smooth. Here's some settings i recommend we all use.

Under Players and Controls / Customize Controls, do it as:

Obviously use whatever sensitivity suits you, just make sure you turn off smooth axis and mouse accel as they make it really weird. I'm using a copperhead, even 4% is too fast for me!

if anyone else has tips for settings, let us know.

And in XP i didn't have to mess around with affinity settings, it just works fine, must be a Vista issue?

I must say, for such an old game the graphics aren't too bad really.

Oh I can fix the affinity issue it there is one. I'll test it on Vista 64bit Ultimate when i get home today.

Then I'll make a fix/patch, and upload it. It's not hard at all.

In the meantime, you can try this tool
