    From a friend who has the game.

    There have been some jaw dropping moments. Like yesterday when I was playing as an machine gunner (insurgent), we almost completely ambushed a truck packed with soldiers, a couple of them managed to run out and scramble like ants. We even had helicopters come in and fly around the area, if we wanted to we could have even set up an IED but where is the fun in that..
    Yup, no game out right now is like it, they have packed so much into this game.

    Keep in mind that ArmA 2 is a combat SIMULATOR, not really a combat "game". It has a steep learning curve, but it you LOVE realism then this is the end game

    Your right it's not arcade-like feel or style, it's a military simulator. No floating cross hairs, no bunny hopping or Tbagging.

    If you want to run & gun without having to think about tactics this isn't for you.

    one of the most important variables you can tweak in the options menu is the view distance setting. If you're lucky enough to already own a couple of GeForce 480 GTXs or Radeon HD 6890s you might just be able to set the maximum view distance (10km), but for the rest of us some sort of compromise will be necessary. If you're going to be mostly playing as an infantryman, you can probably get away with a view distance setting of between 2 and 3km, but armoured vehicle crewmen or pilots will definitely need to see further to survive.

    Unless you do own one of the aforementioned imaginary graphics cards and a 5GHz Core i9 CPU then you just won't be able to run Arma II smoothly at a high resolution at maximum detail settings. It is worth pointing out though that Arma II is one of the few games that really benefits from a quad-core CPU and a powerful graphics card

    Conclusion

    Given the shortage of hardcore PC-only games these days it's refreshing to see an independent developer such as Bohemia Interactive striving to achieve such a lofty goal - that of a fully immersive military simulator playable on a standard (albeit powerful) PC, not a supercomputer. One can well imagine the technical and gameplay compromises that would have had to been made if Arma II was a multi-platform title for both PC and consoles. As it is, the game struggles to run at a decent frame and uses pretty much every keyboard combination you can think of.

    Ultimately, while Arma II isn't the most realistic tank or flight simulator, these elements are of secondary importance compared to the infantry warfare gameplay. What's more, I can't remember the last time a company released a proper tank or flight sim on the PC, let alone one that simulated combined-arms warfare.

    Yes, Arma II still has a fair number of bugs, yes it runs like a one legged drunken horse from time to time but no game, civilian or military has come this close to simulating the terrifying, vulnerable world of the modern infantryman. Poor bloody infantry indeed.

    Been mucking around with the demo, forgot how steep a learning curve it is. To truly appreciate the game you really need to play with other people, the more the better I think.

    Graphics are MUCH improved from the original ArmA, and if you crank up the settings the framerates will take a pounding.

    The new 9.7 Catalyst drivers enabled Crossfire for this game. If there was a game that needed it its this one.

    I was checking out this article and It looks like crossfire really shines on 4890s when the resolution is over 1680 x 1050. Yes, I'm getting a little twitchy waiting for DX11 cards lol

    You can clearly see that the performance gained from the second HD 4890 card increases the higher the resolution is.
    Essentially there is no reason to go HD 4890 CrossFire with resolutions below 1680 x 1050. Once you go beyond 1680 x 1050 you can see the full potential CrossFire scaling which results in almost double the performance.
