    Default Sapphire Radeon 6850 1GB

The newest generation DX11 cards are upon us, and the Sapphire Radeon 6850 1GB sports a non-reference heatsink and boasts some strong gaming horsepower in what is a rather diminutive card compared to some of the behemoths we've seen in the past. Sounds tempting. Let's take a close look at the Sapphire Radeon 6850 1GB.

Great review Jake, a little disappointed that the GTX 460 trounced this new serries in almost every test. I can't see this card being a direct competitor to it maybe closer to the GTS 450? But knowing that this is more of an entry level card being released first this time around compared to the monster 5870 when it was released last year, does peek the curiousity for their forthcoming monster cards any idea on when there release will be? Since the rumor release of the GTX580 in Dec I would speculate that this is when we will see AMD's monster cards as well.

I have a chart of upcoming AMD models, I'll try to post it shortly or maybe edit it into the reviews. I should mention that the GTX 460 was an overclocked model, so a reference model will have slightly less performance and a bit closer to the 6850.

Then I don't feel bad as 5870 owner. Let put it this way; I don't think AMD wants to lose the sales on 5870 & 5850. They just added on wider selection of DX11 cards to compete with Nvidia.

So, you know what this mean?

No price drop for 5870 & 5850 cards for sure.

Here you go..........product lineup from AMD. Some very interesting stuff coming.........

You can see where the 6850 and 6870 sit, near the bottom. There are still a few more cards to come that look to go BIG.

so these are the only cards so far in the 6800 series now we will start seeing the 6900 series and hopefully the big jumps in performance.

    I'd guess 6990 or 69## X2.

The slight nomenclature change will surely leave many baffled. It's too similar to the previous naming scheme.

On newegg, though, the 68XX cards are WAY cheaper than the 58XX cards. That much is good. 180 or so, compared to ~300 for the 5850. Average for the 6870 is roughly 240, compared to 400 for the 5870

Looks like the 6870 and 6850 will just supplant the 55870/5850 as stock dries up then.

Hey, whether you like Nvidia or AMD, kickass performance for under $200 is awfully impressive from both companies.

AMD cut there own throats with the 5870 here 6870 is on par for the most part at half the price with added features, i don't get it.

Actually......AMD might be looking at sticking it to Nvidia. I'd bet they'd rather let some profit go off the 5800 cards and start strong on the 6800 cards and then continue to roll. It did work for them last year.......

I do not think that's going to happen, Nvidia has had a lot of time to sit back a design new cards, so we'll just have to wait and see what they come out with at CES in 2011

I just received this card last week http://forums.pureoverclock.com/show...-Thread/page27
Previously had a PowerColor HD 5770 installed it over the weekend.
