Default Sapphire 6950 DiRT 3 Edition

The Sapphire Radeon 6950 DiRT 3 Edition graphics card, as you can surmise, comes with an excellent value-added bonus of including a hot new game title with its latest 6950 model. But it also comes with a custom heatsink, promising lower temperatures and noise levels, as we often see from AMD's biggest board partner.

Good review Jake, but I have to admit I see greater value in a card that can be flashed over to a "better" card. I can't say I have ever gone out and got a game upon release I always wait for the steam sales lol yeah I'm a cheap bugger so the better bang for the buck in my opinion is the flash side of things. Decent card from Sapphire no doubt but I would put my cash somewhere else.

Personal preference I think. Almost every new 6950 can't be flashed to a 6970, and not everyone is comfortable doing that either. For the "average" person, getting a card that runs extremely cool and quiet, with a $50 game tossed in for almost free, that's a very enticing proposition.

The memory is supposed to run hot on the flash and kill the card like that 6950 you reviewed that Stan sent me.....

The card ran but had problems which you were aware of before the card was shipped to you, Jake never flashed it, so you killed the card lol

You needn't worry about that with this card since it can't be flashed. It'll stay cool and quiet.

Honestly not sure. Give it a whirl when it arrives at your door, but remember to backup the BIOS in case you bork it.

I've had reports on a Dutch review site that he has unlocked the shaders. I will be trying it myself most likely as well.

Hey everyone. I figured I should pass on some knowledge that you all might want. On Guru3D.com a thread was started called ATI HD 6950 2GB 'Dirt 3' unlock - ATI HD 6950 2GB 'Dirt 3' unlock - Guru3D.com Forums. This thread shows you how to flash this cards BIOS in a simple to use guide that gets results when done properly. Another site also pointed out a very nifty feature that seems to be getting a high success rate is to simply switch the BIOS to the position that is farthest from the crossfire link connector (BIOS 2) and you will get unlocked shader of 1536. It's that easy. Just tried it and now I have unlocked shaders on both 6950 Dirt 3 edition cards. Unfortunately I cannot give credit where credit is due as I forgot the name of the site where this thread was started. But I know this helped me a bunch after searching for hours for a fix for this card. You've got nothing to lose by swithching to the second BIOS and seeing if it unlockes the shaders for you. This is truly a great card, and if you got one you got a serious deal. Hope this helps
    Cheers
    Alex
