$580? for 240G? are they nuts? That is way too much.....

Speeds are not that fast to warrant the price IMO.

Hi Guys....a few things to note about the price.
    1. Our current price for the 240GB is $549.99
    2. As the review said, it is the fastest single 6G drive tested other than the Revo in a RAID config.
    3. Performance, reliability, and quality all have their price. Several things weren't mentioned in the article...like that this Extreme 6G line has the longest warranty in the industry...five years. That we offer free U.S. based lifetime 24/7 support. And perhaps most importantly, sure you guys all do your research....see if there have been any recalls or BSOD issues with our drives like experienced by other brands.

Don't want that last point to come off cocky...but we're dang proud of the painstaking development we put into our drives as well as the service and support we offer to users...after all, we're users too and want things that just flat out work and do so better than anything else. So long way of saying don't discount reliability or a no-hassle factor.

Speaking of which, you do know we were the first to offer a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee on our drives?

And lastly, if price still an issue, we're talking with Pure OC about a review of our Electra 6G line. As we position it as "fast like a 6G, priced like a 3G", this may be the drive you need if not working with incompressible files...check out the differences between our 6G models here:

And thanks for the interest in OWC products!

    Best,

    OWC Grant

Fast SSD ! Jim, I believe only $10 more than the last Vertex 3 240GB we reviewed, so that's not bad at all considering what you get in return.

I don't see an issue with price here. This is a vital core component, and the price is on par with a good quality GPU. It's also on par with the pricing of drives from Corsair, Kingston and Intel in comparable capacities. People still think of drives as a secondary concern, and that's just not true anymore.

Price has been revised in the review, and it is indeed on par with the other SandForce drives. Expensive, yes, but if you want the best then it is competitive. Keep in mind too that not everyone may need 240GB.

IMO, for that $ I would get a Revo 2. Most of us cannot afford that much and if it was under the Vertex 3 at let's say $450, they would garnish the market IMO. I understand performance = more money but it would be nice to see someone go for volume and not margin....... just my humble opinion..........

The technology is still new, give it another two years and prices will start to drop. It would be great to find 500GB SSD for $200 or less in the next 2 yrs
