I don't know what board you have and how you did it but when you OC SB, the Turbo must be enable. This is how SB works, overclocking SB is not the same as Bloomfield.

4.5Ghz is just like a walk in the park for the 2600K. Now try above 4.8Ghz as you have C1E, EIST and Speed Stepping off, I'm sure your system would crash or BSOD.

Yes it has to be ON...I don't know about the other boards but my ECS board won't OC the 2600K if I turn it off.

Another question i have. why doesnt windows detect the correct cpu frequency? windows says 3.4ghz cpuz says 4.5ghzdr death anyone?
Turbo is still on even with 5Ghz but you have manually tweaking the voltages. This is how you OC the K series chips.

DrDeath didn't do this, he just used One Click Auto OC feature and the board gave him 4.8Ghz out of the gate.

As you last question, you wouldn't have constant Oced freq with SB. This is how Intel designs the SB; power efficiency, it's only jump to OC freq when there are load...........Turbo baby.

Then it's depend on certain boards, my won't let me do it, I think. I haven't mock around with SB much thought, I must have a revisit it.

no need bios sceenies, we need CPU-Z screenies at idle

On Asus and Asrock boards, all you need to do a screen shot is have a USB Flash Drive installed and hit F12 for bios screenies gents...

Ya, on P67/Z68 there is no need to turn Turbo, etc off. Just leave it on, along with EIST, SpeedStep, and all that other stuff we used to have to disable for overclocking. It's a different game now with this platform.

okay so it does work when you disable all Powersaving functions while OC'ing SB. But I'm starting to like the way it is with all that Power saving features. I currently use the preset 4.8ghz setting as it idles at only 1.0++vcore and when the load comes in, the 1.44v kicks in. This is really very helpful as my room is always very warm 30c ambient, as it wont heat up my room further, rather than running it constantly at 1.4v it probably degrades the CPU faster

I managed to hit 4.8ghz but my chip requires 1.48v which is way too high so i backed off a little and currently on 4.6ghz, I wish i had a better chip
