The OCZ Vertex 4 features the new Indilinx Everest 2 controller, promising enthusiast-classed performance to battle the SandForce drives. As we've seen many times, the SandForce SF-2281 drives are very impressive, so it will be interesting to find out how the Vertex 4 stacks up.

Sweet drive and awesome review. I saw a 120G under for $119 and 240G for $269 at Microcenter the other day. I also saw guys looking at motherboards and was considering getting arrested to pawn a few off I had...LOL

Jake one thing, there is NO such thing as a Indilinx Everest 2 controller on the face of this earth its just OCZ trying to pull the wool over the eyes of its customers again. the controller is 100% Marvell controller with Indilinx firmware nothing more nothing less, OCZ again got caught misleading its customers and had to clear things up with a official response.
its the very same Controller Used on Plextor / Corsair / Crucial SSDs with Different Firmware as all Marvell controlled SSDs every company has their own Firmware
Such as Plextors True speed, OCZ came out with this SSD about the Time they purchased Indilinx and was trying to pull a fast one by stamping the Indilinx on top of the Marvell controller with the Indilinx Firmware team making the firmware since OCZ had no firmware team, and before relied on Sandforce to supply the firmware.
That's why Plextor (PLDS) a company that only uses Marvell has over 100 members on the firmware team, and when the Crucial M3 had issues Crucial was fast to fix the Issue with its firmware team. the biggest difference you will see in Marvell controlled SSDs is the Firmware and the NAND Ocz uses the cheaper Synchronous where Plextor and Corsair use the more expensive Toggle.
During some endurance testing the on the OCZ failed after 32 days of testing on both the Octane & Vertex 4 where the other companies are still running strong in the same testing after 90+ days and Speed does matter in the world of SSDs its not how you look at the race its how fast you get across the finish line, OCZ oped to have higher numbers in synethic testing other then speed where it matters in real world applications with response times.

Nice review Jake!! Good drive for the price.. Speeds are awesome as well. OCZ has been allot better with the firmware on the recent drives. But they did have issues in the beginning but they have since fix most of the issues they had. People still bad mouth OCZ about their firmeware but those are the ones that have not tried OCZ most recent drives. I haven't had any issues at all on any OCZ drives to this date. and I own 3 OCZ SSD's.

Prices always fluctuate, particularly on memory-related products. Newegg and Amazon currently have the drive listed far higher.
I've revised the review to reflect new pricing, though that won't be happening on an ongoing basis. That said, the Vertex 4 is very well priced against the competition.
Thanks for the heads up!
Sorry if I missed it, but what firmware exactly were you testing with? OCZ put out new firmware in May - v1.4RC. Some reviews indicate that sped some of the benchmarks up even more (sequential reads particularly). Did this testing use that updated firmware?
