Default Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI and GA-X79-UP4 Dual Motherboard Review

Gigabyte is ahead of the game with new products prior to Ivy Bridge “E” processors. Today we have their two latest X79 releases, the Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI and the GA-X79-UP4 Plus. One interesting added special feature catches our eye from these motherboards as well. These boards are designed for water cooling. Our mouths are salivating at that prospect. Let’s get these two bad boys to the lab and see what prowess they have under the hood.

Thanks Steve. I try to lay out as much as I can without losing the resder. I think the board specific benchmarks are w winner where most forums do massive gaming benchmarks and CPU benchmarks on a motherboard. All manufacturers will concede CPU performance is equal or within .5% on every motherboard so comparing CPU to CPU scores on multiple boards are a waste of time.

GPU scores will also be very close with exception of the PLX chip on SLI or Crossfire. The Sata and USB scores show a variance between boards(which will not be big). memory scores will be close but it gives you guys the opprtunity to pull another review and compare board specific when making a choice.

Good review Jim. You didn't sound too excited with these two boards. Are there any X79 boards that have stood out and scored well above all the others? Or all they all about the same?

So it's safe to say that ASUS has the better boards right now?
Or is the difference too minimal to matter?

At a premium. The Exteme goes off at $450 Neil. If your air cooling or not pushing the processor to its limits, I feel these Gigabyte boards represent a Phenomenal value at $300 for the UP5 and $270 for the UP4. The best bang for the buck on X79 boards.

OK, that makes sense to me. Thanks Jim.

    Thinking about this,......

The idea of spending $450 for a motherboard makes me shudder.
It makes the $270 board look like a steal considering that their performance is close to one another.
