Nice review Jake! The RAPID feature on this SSD intrigues me; it has inherently built into it the capacity to create what is essentially a temporary RAMDisk partition while system memory isn't in use. This is something that is needed and most people don't even realize it x-). If this feature is consistent across all of the EVO lineup then I think I found my next SSD.

Well said Mike, you're absolutely right. And I think that's part of the elegant beauty of it; people don't even realize it's running in the background. It's not like the performance boost is stealing system resources, it's just using idle power you already have avaialble. Samsung has really nailed a winner here. It'll be interesting to see what happens going forward.....will other companies respond with similar ideas?

I see a downside but I am only judging from the screenshots

Do I have to run windows to get the software to work? Is Samsung’s Data Migration utility a stand alone system that can do all OS's? How about Magician? ...and Rapid Mode? Do you see where I am going with this?

I guess the point is ...Is the setup low level enough to run on just the ssd? regardless of OS

Good question Grumpy. I checked my notes from my discussion with Samsung, and I'm nearly positive those utilities are Windows-only. The stock mode performance numbers are what you'd expect to see on non-Windows installs. Still plenty fast, very good with incompressible data, but not quite the juggernaut without RAPID Mode enabled.
