Default NZXT Kraken X31-X41-X61 AIO Water Cooler Roundup

AIO (all in one) liquid cooling units continue to gain popularity due mostly to the cheaper cost to performance ratio, as well as their leak-proof and low maintenance design. If we look back a mere 2 years ago, liquid AIO cooling units were few and far between, and only a few manufacturers offered this type of cooling solution.Today we find a lot of AIO units flooding the market, and as you may already know, selecting the right one can be a hard choice with so many different styles and types readily available. I am very excited today, because I will be putting three new units on my test bench from NZXT. The NZXT KRAKEN X31, X41 and, Kraken X61 AIO coolers. These three closed-loop liquid coolers are follow-up products to the Kraken X30 X40 and Kraken X60 that were reviewed last year. The NZXT X31 X41 and X61 have kept their same 120mm, 140mm, & 280mm respective CLC design; however, they now come with some new additions in the form of variable pump speed control, increased radiator thickness, and Cam software. Before I continue, let me tell you a bit about NZXT.

Features look nice. I wonder how the performance compares to other coolers.

The X41 performing better than the X61 at top speed is a big surprise.

I can only conclude that the performance boost of the X41 is attributed to the fact that it is thicker Rad than its predecessor the X40,

so it has more surface area and the fans on all three coolers are of the new design which also adds to the performance on all three coolers.

The X61 and X41 are pretty much running neck and neck to one another, and the X31 is holding its own in the 120mm category.

Well, yeah, the X41 having better performance was to be expected. I stated that I was surprised that it was keeping up with the X61. The X61 has more surface area than the X41, the same pump and fans. That is why that result is a surprise.

And the X31 should be holding its own in the 120mm category....it's the only 120mm in the test. There is nothing there to top it.

Good review Vinny. Those NZXT AIO are not bad at all, have good price, solid build quality and especially I like the lighting (except x-31), and variable speed pump. All in all they looks nice, also would be great to see some comparison charts with other AIO (Cooler Master, Corsair...).

    Always look beyond the limits...

Yeah, without any comparison numbers there is no way to know if these temps are good, bad or simply throwing darts.......there is no frame of reference here at all.

I could have put up charts with other coolers that were done by us for comparison, but they were done by one of our other reviewers on different systems and processors than the one I was using.

So technically it would not be apples to apples, but if you would like to see those I can post them here or just go read the other reviews

Like it or not it is what it is, and those were the temps I recorded during my testing.

If you would like to see the actual screen shots of those test runs I have those saved as well. there are also plenty of reviews out there for comparisons.

Another thing which was different than what's previously been done, was the fact that I have variable pump and fan speeds
being controlled by the Cam software during my test runs, which changes the game completely compared to previous tests.

Yea, Unfortunately at the time Vinny did these reviews he didn't have any other coolers that he tested with the same test bench. So comparing other results or data he doesn't have won't represent correctly anyways. Now Vinny just needs to start doing testing on the same test bench with other coolers he gets for review so he can start gathering data for his charts. We all had to do this at one point, we have to start from somewhere..

You Know George I won't fault you for your comments as you are correct I wish I had a list to compare and add to but I dont

maybe if all the reviewers here were on the same test benches with the same processors both intel and AMD like you are, this information could be shared

But as of right now I don't believe any of us are, maybe that will change in the future but for now I need to create a list of my own.
