Default HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset Review

Introduction The Gaming Headset. Ubiquitous and necessary to any gamers arsenal of tools. In cooperative multiplayer games, a good headset can make the difference between the glorious sound of “Head Shot!” yelled out at full volume (much to the dismay of your local Starbuck’s Barrista) and the “mumble mumble” sound of abject failure as your team gets annihilated because nobody could understand you in the TeamSpeak/Ventrilo/Discord channel.

HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset Review-dsc_0101_lzn.jpg

Into this very crowded market, HyperX has tossed their brand new gaming headset, the CLOUD Stinger.
Before we leap into the review, let’s have a bit of back-story on just who these HyperX people are: Well.
There’s a pedigree for you. Kingston Technology’s high performance product division.
I guess we should expect a lot from them then! Let’s move right along and see.

Gaming headset with a good mic I'm a bit puzzled as to why you didn't game with it during the review period, or did you?

Well. Therein lies the rub. I mainly use Linux and while I started a few games, I don't currently have any multiplayer games available. So. I used Skype as an alternate voice quality test. Tried to get my teenager (who games all the time with headphones and a standalone mic) to test it, but in typical teenager fashion, he wasn't cooperative.

The thing about headsets, is that they are so very subjective (unless they simply don't work). They're a little frustrating to test. Yup, they're comfortable, check. Yup, the mic works, check. Yup, sound quality is good, check! At the end of the day, especially with what is arguably a basic headset (no value added software or revolutionary features), it's a struggle to come up with great ways to test them that aren't entirely subjective.

So in lieu of value, I try to add a little humor.

Nope, never got a PM, but I did see this. Funny thing. I crossed PA the other day...didn't know you were so "close".

I'll try to get the box mailed out sometime this week!

    Jim,

No problem, you and your son are quite welcome! I have only one requirement. When you speak to him, wish him Happy Veteran's Day, and tell him that he owes hearing the dulcet sounds of your voice to the United States Air Force. <grin>.
