Default MSI 5830 Twin Frozr II 1GB

Overclocking a graphics card can be a bit daunting, as the returns typically aren't much worthwhile. But we have an exception today: the MSI 5830 Twin Frozr II 1GB. MSI has taken the 5830, installed a custom heatsink with heatpipes and dual fans, used some military-grade components in its construction, and allowed voltage tweaks for serious overclocking. The result? We won't fully tip our hand just yet, but let's say that we managed to pull down some serious numbers.

I've always thought those 2nd gen Twin Frozr (Hawk and Lightning as well) heatsinks could do some serious OCing and boost performance and they have proven me right. I love the overall design, it looks very sleek.

    Loved the review as always.

Your test setup page indicates that you used an i7 920 @ 3.8GHz on an MSI P55-GD85. I assume it's a mistake so what was the proper test setup? Can I assume a different mobo since you also put 6GB of RAM?

Ack, good eye Hazard! We have several test setups we use for various components, sorry about that. It's now been updated. However, in order to show the MSI Update utility I installed the card into our MSI P55-GD85 which sits on another desk. That explains my temporary brain fart in incorrectly listing that mobo.

    My apologies for the confusion.
