Default Will these 2 cards run in sli?

A few weeks ago i purchased a Gainward Geforce 7900 gs 256 mb Golden Edition. As i got a fairly good price on this card i thougfhgt to myself ok i can afford to buy another and run them in sli.so i orederd exactly the same card and waited impatiently for it to arrive.
2 days later the card arrived and i opened the box and sat there looking at me was a Gainward Gerforce 7950 gt 512 mb Golden Edition.
Basically is it possible 2 run these 2 cards in sli mode and if so how would i do this. I dont really want to send the latest card back cos i got it a lot cheaper than wat it should have been. If its not possible il just wait till i can afford a 8800 il sell the 7900 to the highest bidder.

It's not possible i'm afraid mate, the architectural differences here are too different, the 7900 GS has 20 pixel pipelines and the 7950 GT has 24.

So what actually happened, you absolutely ordered a 7900 GS and they sent you a 7950 GT? Not bad going if so

If that is what happened, count yourself lucky! How I wish I could get a 7950GT 512MB for the same price as a 7900GS!

potentially it could work, they are the same card and memory amount doesn't have an affect, but best to get the 256mb version.

nvidia say that you need to have the same GPU, and all these cards use full G80 core. Clock speeds are different but this doesn't affect SLI, it will default both cards to the slowest core speed.

Same with memory. If you have one 512MB card and one 256MB card, it will default both cards to 256MB as it mirrors the framebuffer data.

The only obstable here is that BIOS differences of this degree may stop it from working, but i'd imagine flashing to a similar bios would solve this.

All a bit risky, and i'm just speculating, i've never tried this.

unless i'm missing something, that is a ridiculously expensive card. One thing you don't need is to match brands, so if going SLI, get the BFG for 165, it's pretty much the same thing.

Yer i thought it was well overpriced but as i got it for the price of a cheaper card suppose i came out a little better off. As for the idea of the BFG card i might go for that ive heared some good things about BFg cards.

you sure u cant run them on sli? im pretty sure you could because they are the same series 79__'s but the thing is the 7950 will down clock itself to the 7900 so it would be like having 2 7900's
