Can I use 2 different 7900gt cards in SLI if I set the memory and core speeds the same?

you can indeed, i've done this myself. with a 580/790 and 450/690 cards which is about different as they come. I'm not even sure you have to set the speeds the same, it may do this automatically for you.

as far as i know nvidia supports different cards in sli by long time, and the main advantage is you'll get more power with 2 cards, like more fps in games. but an sli setup needs a mobo which supports this (2 PCI-E slots), also some extra power from the psu

on a sidenote, if you dont have the 2nd card yet, then dont get it at all, because its just a waste of money imo, get a more powerfull card instead (if you can thatis)

cos the pc im gettin has got a 450w psu.is that enough? i was gonna go for this option cos i might be able to get the second card for liek 20-30 from a friends friend which makes it cheap for me rather than like 150+

im considerin upping my gpu at a later date though anyway to somethin better like a 7950gt or somethin.they any good?

7950 GT is a good card, i'd get that over 7600 GT sli anyday, best to just save up and go this route and sell your 7600 GT, it'll give much more performance. SLI is only really worth it on higher end cards.
