    Default 4870x2 vs gtx280.

Ok, so me and a friend of mine (from another forum) are doing a little one on one to see what exactly the difference is between these cards (We both know that according to reviews the 4870x2 is the clear winner, this is only to determine by how far, especially with the gtx280's oc ability):

    Two rules apply:

    1)Overclocking on gfx allowed
    2)Screenshots must be posted

    System specs:

    G4: Qx9650 @ 4Ghz
    Asus Maximus
    4 Gb ddr2 @ 800 (4x1G
    Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit
    XFX Gtx280

    Pork: Qx9650 @ 4Ghz
    XFX 780i
    OCZ DDR800 ram (2x2GB sticks)
    Sapphire 4870x2

    Other specs are n/a. . .

    Games that will be tested:

    1)Crysis dx 9 all high no:aa/af and 16qx 1280x 1024 and 1920x1200

2)A's Creed, latest patch (whichever it is, dx10.1 is a feature of ati so use it) same res as mensioned above, no aa and full aa

3)Mass effect: same res as above, no aa and full aa

4)F:Fow (Make sure you have v-sync switched off ingame and catalyst set to -> use app setting

5)Company of Heroes: Same res, no aa and full

6)Cod 4: same res as above, no aa and full.

    Games only?

Head to head, my money is on the 280 if it's against a 4870. If it's a 4870 X2, then the ATI should come out the winner.

Please remember this is NOT a contest as we both know the 4870x2 will come out victorious, the aim is to see by what margin. . .

"Overclocking allowed" I'll let you know when the last benches are up by tonight what My clocks are, I doubt the 4870x2 is, it runs to hot with stock cooling.

we're not comparing apple to apple here. Technically the GTX280 is better because it's a single GPU and X2 is dual. Look like X2 beating the 280 but it needs two GPUs to do the job though.

Gunn, what program do you use to do frame rates benching for COD4 and other?

Hey Deton. We used Fraps bench tool to get the min, max and ave FPS in the games. Company of heroes has its own bench as well as Crysis.

Here are the graphs done by Xenox:

    "First up, 3D Mark Vantage.

    Practically the same scores.

    Assassin's Creed:

Some disambiguation needed. Order of bars are Min, Max, Avg for 1920x1280 then Min, Max, Avg for 1280x1024.

    Call of Duty 4

Porky didn't complete most of the benches, hence the graph is practically empty on the right. Again, disambiguation is needed. Bars represent from left to right. Min, Max, Avg for each setting before moving onto the next Min, Max, Avg group.

    Company of Heroes

Again, Porky didn't complete most of the benches. Disambiguation is the same as above, Min, Max, Avg for each setting before moving onto the next setting.

    Crysis

    No disambiguation needed.

    Frontlines: Fuel of War

Only one setting, with Min, Max & Avg values."

    Forum we did it on:
