Exclamation XFX 8600GT XXX Edition 256mb RAM

Hi, I have just signed up to this site. (no need for welcoming me :P) and I have a queston about this card. I just recently bought this card and Grand Theft Auto IV. Since I am new to the whole graphics card thing, the guy told me that this card would run GTA perfectly. What a stupid efiing idiot. The game BARELY runs. I've gone to return it, but all I can get is store credit for some stupid reason. :S......... I have already overclocked it a little over the 8600GTS's specs. But is there any way at all to double the RAM, or to have the system RAM and the GPU RAM combined so that I can play GTA? Please respond asap. Also, any other mods will come in handy. So please give me all the replies you can for any other mods. Thank you.

Ok, I won't welcome you to PureOverclock!

I'm sorry to report that there is no way of "increasing" the memory on the card. Even if you could double it to 512, it wouldn't help that much because the card's architecture is not up to par with modern games like GTA IV. It's not just the memory, it's the graphics processors, clock speeds, and so on. You could voltmod it to allow you to overclock it more, but the difference won't be great, and you run the very real risk of burning out the card.

To be honest, if you can return the card for store credit, then you should. If you are able, pitch in some more cash and get something decent.

Give us a list of cards that you could get and we'll give you the REAL lowdown on what they're capable of, not like some dumbarse salesman that knows less about computers than my wife LOL.

    Hey Criss,

Well if you have a few bucks to add to the 8600GT credit try going for a 9800gt this goes for around $100-$130

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130380

or a 9800gtx+ this goes for around $200 respectively with some a little less.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130416

Anything from Nvidia with 800 is always there powerhouse card ex. 8800gt 8800gtx 9800gt 9800gx2 etc those are the cards that will give you the performances you are looking for. the 8800gt that are still around ( they have hit there EOL) go for around 100-130

The 9800gt (rebadged 8800gt) go for around the same price also. now the 9800gtx are 150 and the 9800gtx+ is slightly less then 200.
    and Damn Proud of it!

Wow, I went to return it today and they said it has to be defective. WTF?! So sadly there's no way I can return it. I guess I'll have to make the best of it. Thanks for the help, guys!

if its defective then they as a the seller have to accept it as you have not done anything of the such of missusing it, damaging it, modding etc. THEY sold you a defective product and they tell you because of that you cannot get your money back?!?! I would raise hell if they told me anything along those lines.
