    Default OC on Vista?

in general, anyone found a proper way to oc a card running windows vista? atitool only worked form me after instal, reboot killed it.
and i would be happy if someone had a way to control the cards fan, because the stock settings just dont cut it

I have tried ati tool and ntune and although ntune SAYS it is OCing the card, there is no performance difference. Ati tool didnt even function properly on my vista system. Has anyone tried Riva Tuner successfully?

yet another reason to avoid vista, but with crysis coming soon i might have no choice. hopefully you won't lose much eye candy with DX9.

Imagine if DX10 ever arrived on XP. They'd probably stop making Vista lol

well from what i hear of dx10 crysis you get everything destructable with dx9 i think its only vehicles... so there isnt any way to avoid it. for x2xxx cards you can use amd gpu tool it works fine but there are no voltage, fan or any other settings really except core fq and mem fq. it may work for g80 aswell but i dont know for sure.

I hated getting rid of XP but was under the impression that lots of games would not function in XP (halo 2, Bioshock) and others would not be supported on XP. My 8800GTS gets great frames in Vista, even in Bioschock, but i want to see how far it can be pushed.

I just use Ntune and it resets everytime I reboot, just gotta go in and change the stuff before I hit up a game. With Ntune you can set up a profile that will automatically load up when triggered (load up a game or specific aplication)

Im in process of overclocking my card now. Got my core to 690 (8800 GTS 640M
In process of testing my memory as we speak.
Im using latest version of RivaTuner to change my clocks. Using latest ATITool to test for artifacts, seems the best combination i can find for overclocking my card on Vista.
Please note youl need to set your grfx fan in RivaTuner to manual, then set it to whatever percentage you need to keep your temps low enough. My temps were 15C higher with fan on auto.
This is by no means a solution for people trying to overclock on Vista.
From what info ive read people are finding different combinations of overclcocking software to be just as succesful. This one just worked for me!!!

Riva Tuner for me as well.

I run benchmarks of 3dmark 06 for artifact and stability testing as well as games.

I miss the easy OSD setting in ATitool (which I run on box 2 with an ATi x1600) but you can run some really nice On Screen Displays via Riva statistic server.

I have GFX card 1 core temp
    GFX card 2 core temp
    CPU core temp
    and FPS
    on OSD

    Uhm...

    Idunno if it's just me...

But I use the OC'ing capabilities in the ATI Catalyst ?!

I clocked my 3870 to 880mhz at least (in vista ultimate 64).

After a BIOS flash of course.
